I ended up with a small loss yesterday in what easily could have been a win if it wasn't for the last second corner in the first half for OHL. Still plenty of matches to go this week with 3 on the schedule today.

Zulte-Waregem vs Club Brugge

Zulte-Waregem so far took a fair home draw against Mechelen. They looked shaky in defense at the start away againstWesterlo and lost 3-1. Last week, they took a surprise 2-3 away win against Anderlecht in a match where they build a wall and scored 100% of their chances. Club Brugge took a flattering win at home against Genk, an away 2-1 loss against mechelen where they showed to be not ready yet and a 2-0 win over Cercle Brugge after a poor 1st half needing a red card of the opponent. It was one of those matches where 8 out of 10 times they still win even if they don't put up a performance. In the Champions League they qualified for the next round and it was the first real convincing performance. However, once again there will be some rotation with an eye on the more importan mid-week match. I'm fully expecting a match picture where Zulte-Waregem builds a wall again luring on the counter and where Brugge will likely try to finish it already in the 1st half. The main question is the form that Club Brugge will able to reach. I kind of like the odds on the 1st half for Brugge and took 0.18 units on Club Brugge 1st Half -0.5 @ 2.110 and might add some in game also looking at the 1H Brugge Corners. If Zulte-Waregem were to score first, I likely will take a bet on a Club Brugge comeback as they should be more than capable.

Kv Mechelen vs AA Gent

Mechelen so far took a 1-1 draw away against Zulte in a match where there was 2.34-0.5xg. They carwled back after getting ahead. They took a surprise home win against a rather poor Club Brugge who played with many subs. last week they took a flattering 0-1 away win against Westerlo in a match the home team easily could have won. So for me, the results have been better than the actual performance of this team and I still see them as not that great and with many cheap players as their budget isn't that big. The only thing is that the points that they have taken likely gives hem a confidence boost. AA Gent is on the opposite side of the spectrum. They took a 3-1 loss away against stvv which was deserved. They followed that up with a late 1-0 over La louviere who came to build a wall speculating on a 0-0. The quality the home team brought still was not good enough. Last week at home against Union they started with 5 defenders and they did not play horrible even though they got 0-3 behind. In the end they still made that into a 2-3. There has been some improvement with new players being fit it. Overall, I still see AA Gent with Leko as a coach as the team who will end above Mechelen. A better performance today would come as no real surprise to me while Mechelen not convincing this time around also would be no surprise. I took 0.5 units on AA Gent +0.5 @ 1.931 along with 0.1 units each on AA Gent +0.25 @ 2.172 / AA Gent +0 @ 3.004 / AA Gent 1H +0.25 @ 1.836. So i'm going a bit out of my way speculating on AA Gent while I also would not be surprised if Mechelen continued to ride their good streak and luck.

Union vs Standard

Union look to be in full force again after the win last week against Gent and the 5-0 walkoever against OHL at home after not getting further than a 1-1 draw away against a defensive Antwerp. They have no distraction of Champions League yet so they fully should be able to focus on their match today. Standard seem to be somewhat back with 2 wins and a draw so far this season. They played a good first 15 minutes away against La Louviere which was enough to get the 0-2 win, They played an unfortunate 1-1 draw at home against Dender in a match where the 1st half was in balance and where they were better in the 2nd half. Last week they took the surprise 2-1 win against Genk in a match where the visitors had 80%+ posession and they should have gotten a late penalty. At the same time, the xg were higher for Standard. My main takeaway for Standard is that they no longer really are the defense only team that they used to be under Leko. I expect a match picture where Union takes all the initiative pushing back Standard in the first half creating enough chances to score at least once. My leans are on Union, the over, & Union on the corners. I took initial 0.1 unit bets on 1st Half over 1 @ 1.869 & Over 2.5 @ 1.981 with an eye to add more or take Union on the handicap and the corners handicap depending on the match picture nad the odds.
