Downtown Adventures: Fresh Cuts, Groceries, and a Race Against the Rain

IMG_20250930_130032.jpg Today was one of those days that started with a clear mission: a trip downtown for some much needed hair transformations! I've been toying with the idea of going shorter again for awhile now. While the longer hair has its charm, I've found that I simply prefer the ease and style of a shorter cut on myself. It feels more "me," and after some deliberation, I decided today was the day to make it happen. Adding the excitement, my mother also declared her intention to go for a shorter style. It's always fun when we have these spontaneous joint ventures, and a mother-daughter hair-cutting session felt like a perfect way to spend the day. IMG_20250930_130803.jpg We opted for the classic Bacolod mode of transport: jeepney ride straight to our preferred parlor. The journey was uneventful, a pleasant rumble throught the city streets as we anticipated our new looks. Once at the parlor, we settled in for what we knew would be a bit of a wait. Hair sessions, especially for two people, take time. There's the consultation, the washing, the cutting, the styling, it's a process, but a relaxing one. After some time, we're all done. IMG_20250930_142354.jpg IMG_20250930_133623.jpg With our hair looking fabulous, our next task was to gather supplies. Dinner was on our minds, so we set out to look for some fresh food and ingredients to cook later. We strolled through a few downtown stores, picking up vegetables, some meat, and other pantry staples. Of course, no trip is complete without snacks! We browsed the aisles, selecting a few treats to enjoy later. It was a productive shopping trip, ticking off both necessities and a few indulgences. IMG_20250930_133608.jpg As we finished up our shopping and began to make our way back to the jeepney terminal, a subtle shift in the atmosphere became apparent. The sky, which had been bright earlier, started to darken. A hush fell over the usually bustling streets, and a cool breeze picked up, carrying with it the unmistakable scent of impending rain. We quickened our pace, realizing that the weather was turning quickly. IMG_20250930_143029.jpg And good thing we did! We managed to hop onto a jeepney just in a nick of time. No sooner we had found our seats and started our journey home than the heavens opened. It poured down heavy rain, a true tropical downpour, drumming loudly on the jeepney's roof and turning the streets outside into a blurry canvas of water. We watched the deluge from the dry comfort of our ride, grateful that we weren't caught out in it. IMG_20250930_142900.jpg We arrived home safe and sound, completely dry despite the storm raging outside. The day had been a perfect blend of personal pampering and practical errands, topped off with a thrilling race against the elements. Now, with fresh haircuts, foods and snacks brought home, and the fresh aroma of new bought food ingredients, and the soothing sound of rain outside, it was time to unwind and perhaps enjoy those newly acquired snacks. It was a simple day, but a good one.
