The Beauty and Tranquility of the Centennial Park [ENG|ESP]

I have already shown you some of the parks and gardens that Buenos Aires has towards its north side and while it's true that between Palermo and Recoleta there are some of the largest and most beautiful green spaces in the city such as the botanical garden, the Japanese garden, the Palermo rose garden, Las Heras park and others, it's no less true that in other neighborhoods of the city there are also similar places that represent an oasis of natural rest in the middle of the worldly urban noise. >Ya les he mostrado algunos de los parques y jardines que Buenos Aires tiene hacia su lado norte y si bien es cierto que entre Palermo y Recoleta están algunos de los más amplios y hermosos espacios vedes de la ciudad como el jardín botánico, el jardín japonés, el rosedal de Palermo, el parque Las Heras y otros, no es menos cierto que en otros barrios de la ciudad también existen lugares similares que representan un oasis de descanso natural en medio del mundanal ruido urbano. Further south, towards the geographic center of the Argentine capital, lies Parque Centenario (Centennial Park), a circular space (not a perfect circle, but for reference) of approximately twelve thousand hectares that marks the territorial boundaries between three of Buenos Aires' most well-known neighborhoods: Caballito, Almagro, and Villa Crespo. It's a true green lung for the city and a place of rest and tranquility for the area's residents. As in almost the entire city, one of the defining features of this space is the blend of nature and art. Throughout the park, you can admire various sculptures amidst the roses, jasmine, ceiba trees, and other tree species that spread across its expanse. It's an ideal place for walking, jogging, or strolling with your pet. You can also get some exercise at the skate park, the soccer field, or the outdoor fitness station. If you'd rather relax in the shade of a tree and have a picnic, you can do so, as there are many tall, leafy trees that offer respite from the sun during the hottest hours of summer. Another option is to walk or sit around the central lake, where you can do as I did and enjoy a good book. And if you arrive at the park and don't have any books with you, don't worry, on one side there's a book fair with a large number of stalls where vendors sell second-hand books at a reasonable price compared to other similar spots in the city.  |  --- | ---  |  >Más al sur, hacia el centro geográfico de la capital argentina se encuentra el Parque Centenario, un espacio circular (no es un círculo perfecto, pero es para dar una referencia) de unas doce mil hectáreas de superficie que marca los límites territoriales entre tres de los barrios más conocidos de Buenos Aires: Caballito, Almagro y Villa Crespo. Se trata de un verdadero pulmón verde para la ciudad y un espacio de descanso y tranquilidad para los habitantes de la zona. >Al igual que en casi toda la ciudad, uno de los rasgos característicos de este espacio es la mezcla de naturaleza y arte, pues en medio del parque se pueden apreciar diferentes esculturas que se erigen en medio de las rosas, los jazmines, los ceibos y demás especies arbóreas que se extienden a lo largo y ancho de su superficie. Se trata de un espacio ideal para ir a caminar, a trotar, pasear a tu mascota, pero también puedes practicar un poco en su skate park, su cancha de fútbol o su posta de ejercicio. Ahora, si lo que quieres es echarte a la sombra de un árbol a tener un picnic también lo puedes hacer ya que hay muchos árboles altos y frondosos que te pueden cobijar del sol durante las horas más calurosas del verano. Otra cosa que puedes hacer es caminar o sentarte alrededor del lago central en donde puede hacer como yo y disfrutar de una lectura interesante. Y si llegaste al parque y no llevas ningún libro, no te preocupes, por uno de sus costados funciona una feria de libros con una gran cantidad de puestos en los que los comerciantes venden libros de segunda mano a un precio razonable en comparación con otros puntos similares de la ciudad.    --- My favorite place to sit was there, around the lake. It's true there aren't any trees to provide shade, but the proximity to the water makes the breeze feel refreshing, and you also have a wide view of the entire lake, the fountains, the ducks, the fish, and the people strolling back and forth across the park. I remember lying down for a while to contemplate the sky and the clouds, and I was amazed by the intensity of that blue, a shade impossible to see in Santiago's skies due to the pollution. >Mi lugar favorito para sentarme fue allí, alrededor del lago. Es cierto que allí no hay árboles que den sombra, pero la cercanía con el agua hace que la brisa se sienta fresca y además se tiene una vista amplia de todo el lago, las fuentes, los patos, los peces y las personas que van paseando de uno a otro lado del parque. Recuerdo haberme acostado un rato a contemplar el cielo y las nubes y me maravilló la intensidad de ese azul, un tono imposible de ver en firmamento de Santiago debido a la contaminación. If you stay near Centennial Park or go early to that area, you can add several interesting sights to your visit because there are other places of interest around the park. There's the Naval Hospital, with its postmodern, brutalist blue building; then there's the Argentine Association of Friends of Astronomy, which offers different types of guided tours, some of which include stargazing through telescopes; and there's also the Bernardino Rivadavia Museum of Natural Sciences, open from Tuesday to Sunday, the main museum of its kind and the oldest in the country, with a collection that covers paleontology, geology, and biology, exhibiting everything from insects to complete dinosaur skeletons. I wanted to go into this museum, but for some reason it was closed that day (perhaps because of Christmas). And well, if after visiting the museum you want to sit in the park and drink mate like a true Argentinian, you don't have to worry about bringing hot water, as I saw a free dispenser inside the park. I don't know how common they are in the city, but I only remember seeing this one. So there you have it, Centennial Park is an excellent option for a great weekend outing. Está el Hospital Naval, con esa construcción posmoderna y brutalista de color azul; luego tenemos la Asociación Argentina Amigos de La Astronomía que ofrecen diferentes tipos de visitas guiadas, algunas de las cuales incluyen la observación a través de telescopios; y también está el Museo de Ciencias Naturales Bernardino Rivadavia que abre de martes a domingo y es el principal museo en su tipo y el más antiguo del país, con una colección que abarca paleontología, geología, biología y que exhibe desde insectos hasta esqueletos completos de dinosaurios. Yo quise entrar a este museo, pero por alguna razón ese día estaba cerrado (tal vez por la cercanía de la Navidad). Y bueno, si después de ir al museo quieres sentarte en el parque a tomarte un mate como un verdadero argentino, no tienes que preocuparte por llevar el agua caliente ya que dentro del parque vi un dispensador gratuito. No sé qué tan comunes sean en la ciudad, pero yo sólo recuerdo haber visto este. Así que allí lo tienes, el Parque Centenario es una excelente opción para un buen panorama de fin de semana, ¿cuántos de ustedes lo conocen? ¿habían visto estas máquinas dispensadoras de agua caliente?
