Determine Your Future: Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2439

@croyston117 · 2024-07-22 02:14 · Freewriters

A day late and a story short, it would seem. Life got in the way in more ways than one. Schedule had to be changed around on short notice, and time to participate in the freewrites was slim. I had the first ready to go and almost had another story ready to be fully caught up on the freewrite prompts, but because I hadn't signed up for an account, squibler wiped my work anyway once the 5 minutes was up (despite being on non-hardcore mode, but that's neither here nor there.)

I resign myself to only having had a 5 day streak this time. I think it would help me going forward to quit being so darn self-critical, that's what stops me from typing something out in the first place. It's not as if I couldn't find 5 minutes, but more like I couldn't find a good starting point in a freewriting contest with no rules.

Going to let that other freewrite drift into the digital aether, and leave you with this one from the previous day. Tomorrow I'll get back on track.

Jeremy wasn't sure if it was curiosity or blind desperation that led him to actually go to the address on a flier labeled "Futures for Sale (No, not the stock kind)." After all, it seemed ridiculous enough without being in simple Times New Roman, no graphics, the paper wasn't even laminated, just lazily stapled to a lamppost. It was convincing enough to come here cash in hand, he thought.

He went up to the door, but it opened before he could even knock. He was greeted by a much shorter man with thinning grayed hair.

"Ah, Jeremy Meyers. You're just on time."

"But I-"

"Didn't make an appointment, yes, they all say that. Come on in, believe it or not I haven't got all day."

Despite the curt greeting, he followed the man inside. The building didn't seem futuristic or mysterious, no flashing lights or shiny baubles, just a regular office building with a fresh coat of paint.

"So, you're serious, right? You sell futures?"

"We take cash, cards, or crypto."

"Yeah but- how? Why?"

"The how is a trade secret. The why, however, is not for free."

Jeremy rolled his eyes, handing over the cash in his pocket to the man.

"Right, so it seems like you already know what I'm about to ask, so-"

"If you want to become rich, don't hand your money to strangers."
