I really have to post this one? Seriously?

Greetings everyone and welcome to another Splinterlands post. As many of you are aware there are currently drops on Twitch for Splinterlands.. I know it's very exciting, but sadly something sours the taste of what should be a very good thing for the game. Most of the folks streaming Splinterlands on twitch do not know how to enable drops for their viewers on twitch to even allow them to access it (which is honestly pretty cringe that Splinterlands didn't post how for them to do this, but honestly should've been a bit of a given). So for the good of the community I'm going to post a quick little tutorial of how to actually enable these drops so your viewers can receive them. However despite this it is very unlikely most of us will receive these drops since the requirements of watch time to get them are massive and there are only 5 days left for the promotion. And if the promotion doesn't see enough engagement there may not be another one in the future (which is very sad since videogame drops on twitch are objectively a good idea to entice a new viewerbase). The campaign was a good idea on Splinterlands part, but the fact none of our streaming folks know how to reward their views is causing them to attract less growth for their content as they should. Splinterlands should've had this blurb on their main post about the campaign here, but instead I'm going to have to do it. I didn't think I would either, but after trying to lurk on about 5-7 folks streams with none of them having the option enabled for the viewers to receive drops I feel like folks actually just do not know. I hold nothing against anyone but it's a bit cringe to go to a drops category multiple times and have no one taking advantage of it. So without further ado let's get into it and get these drops a flowin'.

Enabling your viewers to receive drops on Twitch

To enable your viewers to receive drops on twitch first you will click your profile in the top right corner on twitch's website to bring up a drop down menu.

image.png

From here you open creator dashboard. This brings up your creator tools on twitch and these menus might seem daunting but the option to enable drops isn't that complicated to pull of. In the left menu in your creator dashboard there will be a menu titled "Viewer Rewards" open this menu and click on "Drops"

In the drops menu all you have to do is merely toggle the option "On" as oppose to the default "off" position. That's it, you're done. Now all your viewers can receive drops from watching the game you are playing (in this case Splinterlands). It really is that simple, and the fact most of our streamers can't figure this thing out is a bit of a bad look. No one is expecting them to know this by default but the fact it isn't a blurb in the announcement post from Splinterlands might be a bit of an error.

Talking Tidbits: Steps in the right direction

Despite the lack of Splinterlands explaining this basic aspect of streamcraft to you folks, that doesn't mean this isn't a step in the right direction. It is. These sort of campaigns drive new viewers to check out the platform, new streamers to "drop farm" to attract new viewers to their platform etc. These campaigns are at this point a common tactic for web3 games to implement in an attempt to drive new user engagement. And it works, but isn't the same as user retention. The games themselves have to do that more than the drops. We will see new users/streamers during this drop period, but will we retain them? That is the question.
