Metro Mondego - Bus Rapid Transit [ENG-PT/BR]

At the end of January this year, I showed you how my city was in chaos due to the construction work to implement the Bus Rapid Transit system.

Today, seven months later, I'll show you some of the progress that has been made. Of the 42 kilometers planned, 5 are already in use.

Metro Mondego is the name given to the Surface Mobility System in Coimbra, Portugal, which serves the city and thousands of people who frequently travel from surrounding areas. Namely Serpins, Lousã, and Miranda de Corvo. These are places where thousands of people who work in Coimbra live. These three municipalities are part of this transport system.

About a week ago, the first section was inaugurated with great pomp and circumstance. It covers about 5 kilometers in the city alone, with 10 stations, from the Portagem area to Vale das Flores.

The service is free until the end of the year, when the work in Serpins will be completed. Every day between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., citizens can use it free of charge. These first trips also serve to test and make any necessary adjustments to the system. Such as: passenger adaptation, operation management, technical systems, and infrastructure.

Nomeadamente Serpins, Lousã e Miranda de Corvo. São sítios onde residem milhares de pessoas que trabalham em Coimbra. Estes três Municípios fazem parte desta rede de transporte. ﾠ Há cerca de uma semana foi inaugurado com pompa e circunstância o primeiro troço. Cerca de 5 quilómetros apenas na cidade, 10 estações, da zona da Portagem até ao Vale das Flores. ﾠ O serviço é gratuito até ao final do ano, a quando do términus da obra em Serpins. Diariamente entre as 8:00 e as 20:00 os cidadãos podem usufruir gratuitamente, estas primeiras viagens servem também para testes e adaptações necessárias ao sistema. Tais como: adaptação dos passageiros, gestão de operação, sistemas técnicos e infraestruturas.
