Can AI replace a Nutritionist? #1

Thirty-eight days ago, I wrote a post explaining that I was going to test AI, in this case using Gemini, as a nutritionist, and see what results I could achieve.

The biggest challenge, besides the psychological factor of having the willpower to take it seriously, was the fact that I wouldn't force my wife and children to change their diet just for my sake.

After all, everyone has different needs, as we're at different stages in life.

My approach wasn't to demand a pre-defined meal plan or recipes, but rather to define what foods should be in my diet to avoid feeling hungry and to eat in a way that would help me lose weight.

The list of foods I ended up basing my diet on was: - plenty of vegetables (sautéed, cooked, or in salads); - lean meats (preferably chicken or turkey, but beef could be used if it was a lean cut); - eggs; - avocado; - dried fruit (always in moderation, not more than 7/8 of a meal); - Fresh cheese; - Quark cheese; - Reduced-fat Flemish cheese (this was imposed on me, since I love cheese); - Turkey or chicken ham; - Water; - Sugar-free juices;

All meals were now cooked or sautéed vegetables with some seasoning, but practically no oil.

By following this new diet, I managed to lose 5.3 kilos in 29 days, which is when I started weighing myself.

It may not seem like much, but this was done without any physical activity, since it's summer and training/matches are on hold.

During these 38 days I had my social moments where I went off my diet to be able to integrate into the social gathering, for example when everyone wanted to have something for dinner, and I wasn't going to be the only one forcing them to cook something different just for me.

Psychologically, I've had moments where I've seen proof that I'm truly committed to following the plan and trying to improve my physical condition, which will certainly improve my health.

The situation that made me most happy and confident was when my children ordered fast food (McDonald's or Burger King), and I ordered for them and cooked my sautéed vegetables without craving fast food or feeling the need to send something home.

I'm enjoying this experience because Gemini is available at any time to clarify whether or not I can eat a certain food, and because in all his answers, he always gives me the strength to stay focused.
