The Greatest Idea EVER!

I suppose there would not really be much point in starting a business — or inventing something, or writing a book — unless you actually believed that what you're doing is the greatest thing ever!

Or, if not exactly the greatest thing ever, at least something that is substantially better than anything that has previously been offered and thus worthy of enjoying considerable success in the marketplace.

This would be the starting point for most entrepreneurs, I'm sure.

With that said, the reality tends to be that 95% of what people come up with tends to not really be all that great, and in many cases has already been done to death.

However, I have to believe that human innovation and the ability to have progress in our world is dependent on this belief that whatever somebody comes up with is ”the greatest idea ever!”

As often as not, the challenge seems to be the underlying default assumption that "everybody else in the world thinks like you do." Which, of course, is patently untrue!

When you write that amazing book, or bring that amazing idea to market, it's likely that you can scrap 95% of the population right off the bat as being those who are going to look at your stuff and say "So what? Who cares? That's just DUMB!"

Which leaves you with that much smaller potential market to pitch your idea to. With the exception of a few stories we read about on the news the vast majority of things are not overnight successes that went viral.

Around here, one of the things we got caught up in was this allegedly "brilliant" cat litter that was supposed to be light years ahead of all other cat litter.

We tried it, and while it was decent enough litter, there was nothing "game changing" about it... unless you count double the price and half the typical lifespan as revolutionary!

CCC042-ArtyCat2.jpg I'm not impressed!

It made us rather sad that this product underdelivered so significantly... but it seems like so many things touted as "next level" fail to come close to their promises.

Is exaggeration really the key to success? Is it even *needed?

Beats me!

As far as I am concerned, I'd rather have an honestly decent product or service than a hyped-up one that has no chance of delivering on its promises.

How about you?

Till the next one, thanks for stopping by!
