Although we may think so, we don't need to earn God's favor, since He offers it as a gift, because we don't deserve it either, thanks to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.
15 We, who were Jews by birth and not sinners from among the Gentiles,
Galatians 2:15
But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Galatians 6:14
The apostle Paul was very clear that boasting about the cross would be of no use, meaning that on those two beams God made salvation available to all humanity. Through the death of Jesus Christ, that sacrifice, we have been reconciled with God and freed from the punishment we deserved because of sin. Thus, we read that no one is justified by the works required by the law. This means that living godly and righteously has nothing to do with earning God's favor, even though many believe that if their good works outweigh their evil, they somehow have access to heaven. And if this were the case, Jesus' sacrifice was simply a work in vain.
We are naturally proud, and this is an obstacle, since we are always in constant search of acceptance and believe we are worthy of love. And here appears the cross, inviting us to humble ourselves before God, and that we cannot carry anything in our hands that is sufficient to make us worthy. Thus, before Jesus' sacrifice, we recognize that everything we do is not enough to receive His grace. We only receive it when we surrender, and we are convinced that it is only through Jesus' work that we receive it.
We have absolutely nothing to offer God, like buying food or making salvation, and we must know that he doesn't expect anything from us either. He has already taken care of everything and done everything that was needed to cleanse our condemnation and thus reconcile us once and for all with him. Thus we see that the cross of Jesus Christ is a symbol of love, of grace, it is the sublime act that marked a before and after for all humanity, and that after that we all have the opportunity to begin a relationship with God, an eternal salvation.
Aunque lo pensemos no necesitamos ganar el favor de Dios ya que él lo ofrece con un regalo porque tampoco lo merecemos gracias a la muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo en la cruz del calvario.
15 Nosotros, judíos de nacimiento, y no pecadores de entre los gentiles,
Gálatas 2:15
Pero lejos esté de mí gloriarme, sino en la cruz de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, por quien el mundo me es crucificado a mí, y yo al mundo.
Gálatas 6:14
El apóstol Pablo tenía muy clarito que nada serviría de jactarse en la cruz o sea que sobre esas dos maderas Dios puso la salvación al alcance de toda la humanidad. Por medio de la muerte de Jesucristo, ese sacrificio, hemos sido reconciliados con Dios y fuimos hechos libre del castigo que merecíamos por culpa del pecado. Así leemos que nadie justificado por las obras que demanda la ley, esto significa que vivir de manera piadosa y en rectitud no tienen nada que ver con ganar el favor de Dios aunque muchos creen que si sus buenas obras son más que lo malo de alguna manera tienen acceso al cielo. Y si fuese así el sacrificio de Jesús simplemente ha sido una obra en vano.
Nosotros por naturaleza somos orgullosos y esto es un obstáculo ya que siempre estamos en constante búsqueda de la aceptación y creemos que somos merecedores de amor. Y aquí aparece la cruz que nos invita a humillarnos delante de Dios y que nada podemos cargar en nuestras manos suficiente como algo que nos haga merecedores, así delante del sacrificio de Jesús, reconocemos que todo lo que hagamos no es suficiente para su recibir su gracia. Sólo la recibimos cuando nos rendimos Y estamos convencidos que por la obra de Jesús solamente los recibimos.
No tenemos absolutamente nada para ofrecer a Dios como para comprar comida hacer la salvación y debemos saber que él tampoco espera nada de nosotros, él ya se encargó de todo hizo todo lo que se necesitaba para limpiar nuestra condena y así reconciliarnos una vez y para siempre con él. Así vemos que la cruz de Jesucristo es un símbolo de amor, de gracia es el acto sublime que marcó un antes y un después de toda la humanidad y que después de ahí todos tenemos la oportunidad de iniciar una relación con Dios, una salvación eterna.
