"Inheritance" - Chapters 65-68 were truly incredible!

MANY Spoilers!!

Chapters Read:

  • The Heart of the Fray
  • The Name of All Names
  • Muscle Against Metal
  • The Gift of Knowledge

Well these chapters were NUTS!

Roran is arguably pound for pound the most powerful person in Alagaësia and I will die on that hill! I also refuse to believe he's not built different! Maybe he's really not and that's kind of the point of his character. He's there to show that even non magical humans have a measure of power even in these magical lands. If Roran could do magic he would be an absolute PROBLEM.

But seriously these chapters are literally the most important of the whole book AND series, it's all led to this and man they were awesome. What a journey this has been.

Lord Bast was scary powerful and I still am not a hundred percent aware as to why he was so powerful exactly. I know he had an Eldunarí but still, there were elves after elves and magical user after magical user and sooo many soldiers around that not even an Eldunarí should have been that powerful. They eluded to the fact that 'his mind wasn't there' which I'll be honest I don't know what that's about. I probably should know LOL. Oh well, even beyond that I'm guessing Galbatorix meddled with Barst in some way. The fact that Barst is able to best Queen Islanzadí is really wild.

Thinking about Barst, and how Eragon, Murtagh and even Roran are all human is quite interesting.

Roran managing to best Barst was just incredible. Well of course Roran had plenty of help but once Barst was weakened ultimately Roran literally squeezed the man to death and also crumpled and crushed the stinking Eldunarí! Like my goodness!! What an incredible scene 10/10 bravo. Scenes like that are what good books are all about.

Then came Eragon's battle with Galbatorix. And the odd forced battle with Murtagh. That was also next level and felt so epic.

Murtagh and Thorn's involvement TOTALLY escaped me, like I completely forgot how important they were. Galbatorix does NOT get defeated without Murtagh and Thorn and honestly, this fact is something that I totally did not remember. Frankly I underestimated just how important Murtagh and Thorn were on like every level in this entire series.

Murtagh is actually the first person to directly attack Galbatorix and Thorn is the first to directly attack Shruikan! In fact I don't think this fight ever begins WITHOUT Murtagh and Thorn! I don't see a way it's actually possible. I think once this happens Galbatorix truly starts to panic in a big big way. I also wonder if Murtagh could have eventually defeated Galbatorix on his own but in that moment probably not because Murtagh was hurt and Galbatorix pretty much knocked him out. Indeed the presence of Thorn, Saphira, Arya and Eragon made this happen. But still, I think a world exists where Murtagh could have taken down Galbatorix.

In fact Murtagh hints at being able to actually FREE Nasuada which makes me wonder what else Murtagh had planned!! Yoooooo!!!

Literally, Murtagh said I believe to Nasuada that his Eldunarí are young or old or something along those lines. Same as Eragon's. There's an argument to be made that Murtagh was not in the best mental state ever until recently anyway to directly oppose Galbatorix. Still Eragon and Murtagh for sure needed each other and defeating Galbatorix doesn't happen without both of them being in that room. I think Murtagh COULD have taken on Galbatorix but I'm still not sure. I think where Eragon was a bit more of a cool level headed cat, Murtagh made up with knowledge and skill, but just barely. I mean Murtagh literally knew the Word somehow!

I mean there's so much to consider. Eragon is extremely strong and everything I only express a lot about Murtagh because I really did not realize how involved he was in this re-read. I literally thought that Eragon and Saphira took out Galbatorix on their own for the most part. I didn't remember Thorn even helped whatsoever. I'm just shocked.

Eragon even believes that Murtagh is the better swordsman and kinda resorted to trickery to win. Also, I think Murtagh willing to kill Eragon was not just because of saving Nasuada, but it was also because Murtagh knew he could beat Galbatorix and like, if Eragon had to die then he would do it I guess. Similar to how Eragon knew if those children had to perish for the greater good. But maybe he wasn't trying to kill Eragon, perhaps Murtagh knew that Galbatorix would stop the killing blow and this was perhaps to send a silent message to Eragon or something.

This is wild stuff! Also a ton of assumptions and what ifs by me but yeah. I've been watching SuperCarlin Brothers and other Harry Potter lore/theory videos and so a lot of possibilities are just flowing through my head LOL.

But yeah, it was intense when Eragon finally took on Galbatorix and crafted the birth of a wordless spell. So crazy. Very proud of Eragon for sure.

It's wild how Galbatorix literally like, brought on his own demise. Semi-inviting all of these powerful people so close to him was kinda dumb HA.

This chapter was well thought out and just such an exciting series of events. Truly I could see myself re-reading 'Muscle over Metal' and 'The Gift of Knowledge' out of boredom one day.

I don't know what to say. I'm just lucky to have read this. I feel grateful.

I definitely see why I thought 'Inheritance' was so incredible.

There's still 131 pages or so left!

This has been so good. I'm kinda glad I only read this once before until now.
