I've always been a techie, and for as long as I can remember, I have always loved digital skills and the digital world. Technology has always fascinated me, from the way computers work to how digital platforms connect people across the world in just a matter of seconds. I remember growing up, and every girl around my neighborhood was asked to learn one physical skill or the other, ranging from hair braiding to sewing, to fashion designing, to crocheting, and the like. It was almost a standard expectation that once you were a girl, you had to know how to do one or two of these things in order to be considered useful or skillful.
My mom was not left out of this societal influence. She also wanted me to have a hand skill like my peers, something she could boast of, something she could proudly say her daughter knew how to do. But I was different. In fact, I was always ridiculed for not knowing how to do anything my fellow girls could do aside from cooking. Many times, I was laughed at, compared, or made to feel like I was not measuring up. But one thing stood out for me; when it came to learning digital skills, I was always up for it. The passion was there, the drive was so strong and the zeal was undeniable. I just wanted to look at the computer screen and behold my beautiful work. The glow of the monitor, the joy of creating something from scratch and the satisfaction of watching it come alive gave me happiness in ways no physical skill could.
I have always loved being a creative, and so in response to the prompt by @jane1289 for this week, the business I would gladly love to go into would be having a cyber hub. This wouldn’t just be an ordinary cyber café, but a digital innovation hub. A place where creativity meets business and where people are empowered with the right digital skills for today’s world. In this hub, I am going to have a graphic design class where people pay to be tutored in this skill. Graphic design is one of the most in-demand digital skills today because businesses need logos, posters, flyers, and all forms of digital branding. Having a structured system where people can learn and also practice will not only give them skills but also empower them financially.
I would also have a class where people pay to be taught how to trade digital currencies and trade forex too. Cryptocurrency and forex have taken over the financial sector and while many people want to learn, they lack the right guidance and learning environment. My hub would provide that safe space. More so, I love data science, and that’s also going to be part of the hub. With the world relying heavily on data, learning data analysis and data science is like securing a place in the future of work.
Of course, in my locality, not everyone owns a computer system, and so people go out to look for a small cyber café where they can type and print out information they need for different reasons. Now, that’s also going to be a part of this hub because that’s really a lucrative business in this part of the world. People constantly need internet access, printing services, and digital assistance. By combining a learning center with a functional cyber café, my hub will meet both personal and professional needs.
I want to perform as many digital jobs as anyone would find so that once someone thinks of a place to perform any digital activity, my cyber hub indeed comes to mind. We obviously live in a digital world where almost everything is done online, and gradually we are getting to a phase of life where papers would mean nothing anymore as everything would have to be done online. Think about it: most of the time, we don’t even use notebooks to jot down things anymore; we now use notes on our phones, tablets, or computers. That shows that everyone is going digital already. So, utilizing this opportunity is what I can confidently say is the best business for me.
Another aspect of this business is the sale of computers, laptops, and their accessories. It’s such a huge part of the business because technology is ever-changing, and people will always need systems, replacements, and upgrades. This part would require importations and foreign relations, and that makes it even more exciting because it opens doors to international opportunities.
I am really passionate about this, and it has been my dream since I was very young. I believe that if one follows their passion and builds consistency, success is inevitable. I really pray that the resources and the capital will come at its earliest time so that I can begin this journey of creating something not only for myself but for others who need an opportunity to step into the digital world. This cyber hub will not just be a business, it will be a legacy that I can be prouder of.
