Citadel (2023)
When we arrived at this plateau in Kosciuszko (Australia) it was windy & rainy but nothing out of the ordinary. After scouting the area & taking some images we bunkered down & woke up the next morning to half a meter of snow & some of the most brutal conditions I’ve experienced up on the mountain
We knew snow was coming but not that much, especially in Autumn
As the winds push through the mountains the clouds shifted & every now & again the sun cut through which is what happened in this shot
The composition we had flagged before but without snow - once we saw the sun pushing through the clouds we ran (stomped?) as fast as we could to get into the area
I didn’t really have the patience or time to get my tripod out so fired off some shots handheld before the light disappeared & we were once again covered in the darkness of the mountain
I always like to say when I’m on the mountain I stop feeling sad & start feeling cold - the visceral feeling of being in a position of fighting against an environment that is passively trying to kill you is freeing. Nothing puts you in a state of flow or being present more than that
