Me siento muy feliz de estar por acá publicando hoy por primera vez un post en esta comunidad, HIVE MARGARITA, un espacio dedicado a mostrar las maravillas que nuestra isla tiene para ofrecer. No cabe dudas en que los margariteños tenemos día a día bellezas en nuestro alrededor, que me alegra ahora contar con una comunidad especializada en mostrarlas y que todo el mundo conozca un poco más sobre ellas. >Hello everyone. I'm very happy to be here today, publishing my first post in this community, HIVE MARGARITA, a space dedicated to showcasing the wonders our island has to offer. There’s no doubt that we, the people of Margarita, are surrounded by beauty every day. I'm glad to now be part of a community that specializes in sharing these treasures so that the world can get to know them better.        En esta oportunidad quiero hablarles sobre un tema que caracteriza mucho a Margarita, la pesca. Desde que estoy pequeña, siempre en el colegio o en cualquier parte, he podido ver la inspiración que esta actividad genera ya sea en el arte o nuestra vida cotidiana. Más allá de ser una actividad económica, es una tradición de nuestra isla. Desde los primeros pobladores, como en comunidades actuales, la pesca ha sido identidad y sustento. Hace poco, me dio gusto ver que en el Centro Comercial La Vela, como decoración en el área de escaleras, tienen unas pinturas de pescadores, lanchas y paisajes hermosos, que nos representan como margariteños. >This time, I want to talk about a topic that truly defines Margarita, fishing. Ever since I was little, whether at school or anywhere else, I’ve seen how this activity inspires both art and everyday life. >Beyond being an economic activity, fishing is a tradition of our island. From the earliest settlers to today’s communities, it has been a source of identity and livelihood. >Recently, I was delighted to see that at La Vela Shopping Center, as part of the stairway decorations, there are paintings of fishermen, boats, and beautiful landscapes that represent us as Margariteños.     Me llamó la atención un cuadro en específico, de una playa full de gente, niños jugando en la arena, y noté que se trataba de Playa Parguito por la montaña que estaba de fondo. Esa pintura es una representación de cómo se ve una playa en Margarita un domingo. >One painting in particular caught my attention, it showed a beach packed with people, children playing in the sand, and I recognized it as Playa Parguito because of the mountain in the background. That artwork is a true representation of what a beach in Margarita looks like on a Sunday.      Mientras se suben las escaleras, los pasillos en sus paredes muestran instrumentos tradicionales de la pesca margariteña. Aquí tenemos una angarilla, lo cual es una malla que se utiliza para poner el pescado adentro cuando se va a pesar. También un salibai, que locamente se le llama así a un instrumento para sacar sardinas en el vivero. >As you walk up the stairs, the hallway walls display traditional fishing tools from Margarita. >Here we see an angarilla, a mesh used to hold fish when they're about to be weighed. There's also a salibai, a curious name for a tool used to scoop sardines from the fish nursery.   En este lado se encuentra un tipuri, se refiere a una pieza que ayuda a sacar las sardinas de las redes. También pulperos, garapiños y carretes de madera, cuya función es recoger y soltar el hilo, permitiendo controlar la distancia de lanzamiento y la tensión durante la captura. Son especialmente útiles en pesca artesanal o tradicional, se usan por su resistencia al agua salada y su facilidad de reparación. >On this side, there's a tipuri, a tool used to help remove sardines from the fishing nets. You’ll also find pulperos, garapiños, and wooden reels, which are designed to release and retrieve fishing line, allowing control over casting distance and tension during the catch. These tools are especially useful in artisanal or traditional fishing, valued for their resistance to saltwater and ease of repair.         Por otro lado encontré anclas y mecates de agarre, esenciales para la estabilidad y seguridad de las embarcaciones. Además boyas y flotadores con mecate, así como remos. >On the other side, I came across anchors and grip ropes, essential and safety of boats. There were also buoys and floaters tied with rope, as well as oars.      Y por último el clásico peñero margariteño, junto a una lámpara de kerosene y una nasa de pesca. >And finally, the classic peñero from Margarita, a small traditional fishing boat, accompanied by a kerosene lamp and a fishing trap (nasa).   Este recorrido por el Centro Comercial La Vela no solo resalta la belleza visual de Margarita, sino que también celebra profundamente su identidad cultural. A través de las pinturas, instrumentos y símbolos expuestos, se revela un homenaje a la cotidianidad isleña, a sus paisajes, sus playas llenas de vida, y a los objetos que sostienen el trabajo de generaciones. Es una declaración de amor a Margarita, a su gente y a sus costumbres. Me alegra que ya exista una comunidad que busca compartir y preservar ese legado. Hasta la próxima. >This walk through La Vela Shopping Center not only highlights the visual beauty of Margarita, but also deeply celebrates its cultural identity. Through the paintings, tools, and symbols on display, it offers a tribute to island life, its landscapes, its lively beaches, and the objects that support the work of generations. It’s a heartfelt declaration of love for Margarita, its people, and its traditions. I'm glad there's already a community committed to sharing and preserving that legacy. Until next time.
