In my youth, the beach was one of my favorite places to go. My friends and I would head there almost every weekend. I loved the adventure of taking the bus and watching the landscape change from mountains to the beautiful coast. We usually went to the beaches and cays of Morrocoy National Park in Falcón, Venezuela. As the years went by, these trips became less frequent. Even though I’ve taken my family to closer beaches, I had never brought my kids to the beaches I used to visit so often.

>En mi juventud uno de los lugares que más visitaba era la playa, casi cada fin de semana iba con mis amigos. Me encantaba la aventura de tomar un bus, disfruta el paisaje del viaje de iba cambiando de las montañas a las bellas costas de playa. Normalmente íbamos a las playas del Parque nacional Morrocoy y sus cayos ubicados en el estado Falcón, Venezuela. Esto cambio con los años y dejo de ser frecuente, aunque he ido con mi familia a playas más cercana, nunca había llevado a mis hijos a las playas que tanto visite.
From our house, it’s a little over a 100 kilometer trip, taking about an hour and a half at an average speed. But that can change if you decide to make a few stops. Some people like to eat empanadas at a place called "El Palito" halfway there, or stop to take photos or even have their first swim at a spot people have nicknamed "Caminito a la Felicidad" or **"The Little Path to Happiness"**
>Desde nuestro hogar, es un viaje de un poco más de 100 km, toma aproximadamente una hora y media a una velocidad promedio llegar, pero este tiempo puede variar si decides hacer paradas previas, algunas personas a mitad de camino les gusta comer empanadas en un lugar llamado el Palito, así como también detenerse a tomarse fotos o darse un primer baño de playa en un lugar que las personas han bautizado en **"Caminito a la Felicidad"**.
There’s not much special about this place. It’s a road along the beach—not a particularly pretty one and with a lot of waves, by the way. But it’s a path lined with palm trees where you can smell the sea. It's a one-way road, so you can easily pull over, get out, and take photos showing the long path with the palm trees in the background. So why “The Little Path to Happiness?” Because it’s the road that takes us to the beautiful beaches and cays we love so much. It’s the moment you start to feel happy because you know you’re close to your favorite place.
>No hay mucho de especial en este sitio, es la carretera a orilla de playa, una no tan bonita y con mucho oleaje por cierto, pero es un sendero lleno de palmeras donde se siente el aroma a mar, el sentido de circulación de los vehículos es solo de ida, así es es posible orillar el vehículo y bajarse a tomarse fotos que muestre el largo camino, con las palmeras de fondo ¿Porque el Caminito a la Felicidad? Porque es la vía que nos lleva a las bellas playas y cayos que tanto amamos, es el momento donde comienzas a ser feliz porque sabes que está cerca el sitio que te encanta.
After this stretch of road, you’ll arrive at the town of Tucacas just a few kilometers ahead. It's a commercial area full of buildings, hotels, resorts, and casinos. I was a bit surprised by how lively the place was. I knew a lot of places had closed down, but they've come back, and many new spots have even been built since my last visit. After passing through the commercial area, you’ll reach the entrance of Morrocoy National Park, where you have to pay $2 per vehicle. Motorcycles aren't allowed to enter; you have to park outside and walk in.
>Tras pasar este tramo de carretera, unos pocos kilómetros más adelante llegas al pueblo de **"Tucacas"** una zona comercial llena de edificios, hoteles, resorts y casinos. Quedé algo sorprendido con la vida del lugar, se que muchos lugares habían dejado de funcionar, pero han vuelto e incluso se han construido muchos nuevos sitios desde la última vez que yo estuve. Tras atravesar la zona comercial, llegas a la entrada del Parque Nacional Morrocoy, dónde debes cancelar por vehículo el precio de USD $2, las motos nos tiene permitida la entrada, debes dejarla fuera y pasar caminando.
This section of the park is a large island with a group of mangroves that separate it from the mainland to the west. To reach the island, you have to cross a small bridge over a canal that many small boats use to get to the park's cays. After the bridge, it’s about a 3-meter walk through vegetation to get to the beach.
>Está sección del parque es una isla de gran tamaño con agrupación de manglares que la dividen de tierra firme hacia el oeste. Para alcanzar la isla se debe atravesar un pequeño puente sobre un canal de agua, que muchas lancha y pequeñas embarcaciones usan para ir a los cayos del parque. Luego del puente el camino es de unos 3 mts a través de vegetación para alcanzar la playa.
This island has a coast that’s a little over 2 kilometers long and is great for swimming. It has white sand and crystal-clear water with different shades of blue and turquoise. Thanks to its location and the coral formations around it, there are no waves, which makes it perfect for the little ones in the family. But there is one problem: even though the sand is very soft, there are a lot of small pieces of coral, like tiny stones, in the water that can hurt your feet if you go in barefoot.
>Está isla cuenta con una extensión de costa de un poco más de 2 km que pueden ser utilizada para bañarse, con blancas arenas, aguas cristalinas que se combinan entre tonos azules y turquesa. Gracias a su ubicación y las formaciones de coral que la rodean, no cuentan con oleaje lo que la hace perfecta para los niños más pequeños de la casa, pero tiene un problema, aunque la arena es muy suave, dentro del agua hay muchos restos pequeños de coral, como pequeñas piedras que te lastiman si te bañas descalzo.
The beach also has several services. Toldos (tents) for shade cost between $10 and $20. There are restrooms and showers, as well as vendors selling seafood, ice cream, sunglasses, hats, and local sweets. We chose to eat some shrimp and ceviche.
>La playa también cuenta con varios servicios, los toldos para cubrirse del sol tiene costos que van desde los USD $10 a $20, hay baños y ducha, vendedores ambulantes que te ofrecen los frutos del mar, helados, lentes, sombreros y dulces típicos de la zona. Nosotros optamos por comer un poco de camarones y ceviche.

Overall, the place is very pleasant and beautiful. The whole family, from the youngest to the oldest, can have a great time. It’s also affordable and not too far from the city if you don’t want to travel to other beaches that are more popular or even prettier. But it was definitely a great experience for my family, and it made my kids so happy to finally see this place.
>En general el sitio es muy placentero y bello, la familia toda, desde los más pequeños al mas grande puede pasarla muy bien, ademas es economico y no muy alejado de los centros urbanos si no se quiere viajar a otras playas que son mas populares e incluso mas bellas, pero en definitiva fue una gran experiencia para mi familia e hizo feliz a mis hijos conocer finalmente este lugar.
