Finding the source of the oil leak again [ENG/SPA]

I recently told you about the last-minute adjustments I made to my car so my family and I could take a trip to the beach. I checked the spare tire, polished the headlights for better illumination, adjusted the alternator and hydraulic pump belts, and finally added a quart of motor oil. The trip went off without a hitch and the car performed well, but after several days, it lost another quart of oil and I decided to check exactly where it was leaking from again. >#### Buscando nuevamente el origen de la fuga de aceite >Les contaba recientemente sobre los ajustes de último minuto que hice a mi carro para poder hacer un viaje a la playa en familia. El viaje lo hicimos sin problemas y el carro se portó muy bien, pero tras ya varios días volvió a perder un litro de aceite y me decidí nuevamente a chequear por donde exactamente esta botandolo.  In my previous post, I mentioned that the car had an oil spill about three months ago. I paid a mechanic to fix it, and we ended up replacing the front camshaft seals on both sides and the front crankshaft seal. But it started leaking again, and I couldn't get it fixed under warranty because several months had already passed. This is a common problem with these cars; they're very economical, but after years of use, they start leaking oil because the parts used to fix them aren't always high quality and don't last long. >Les contaba en mi publicación anterior que el carro tuvo derrame de aceite hace tres meses más o menos, le pague a un mecanico para que lo corrigiera y terminamos cambiandoles las estoperas de los dos árboles de levas y la delantera del cigueñal, pero comenzó a derramar nuevamente sin poder llevarse por garantía porque habían pasado ya varios meses. Este es el mal de estos carros, son muy económicos pero ya por los años de uso comienzan a derramar aceite debido a que no siempre los repuestos para corregirlo son de buena calidad y duran poco. I don't know how many posts I've made about this—it's just so frequent. The thing is, there are several reasons why this can happen. First, considering the age of the car—we're talking about a 2012 model—it's been obsolete for a while, but it's what I have, and I have to maintain it. One of the parts that suffers the most over the years is the valve cover. It's plastic, and when the car overheats, which has happened to me several times, it loses its shape and can cause leaks. Pasa que hay varias razones por las que esto puede ocurrir, considerando primero los años que el carro, estamos hablando de un vehículo del año 2012, ya entró en obsolescencia hace mucho, pero es lo que tengo y hay que mantenerlo. Una de las partes que más sufre con los años es el tapa valvulas, porque es plástico y cuando el carro se calienta demás, cosa que me ha pasado varias veces, esta pierde su forma y puede ser motivo de derrames, por eso se coloca hoy dia una estopera mas gruesa de la original. But most of the leaks on this car come from the seals: the camshaft seals and the crankshaft seals—both the one on the damper side and the one on the transmission side. No matter which one I buy, the parts stores assure me it's the original. I've even bought them from the dealership's parts department, which supposedly gets parts directly from the manufacturer, and the leaks still continue. >Pero los derrames de este carro la mayoría de las veces viene de las estoperas, las de los árboles de levas y las del cigueñal, tanto la que está del lado del damper, como la del lado de la caja de cambios. No importan cual compre, las ventas de repuestos me aseguran que es la original, incluso la he comprado en el concesionario por el departamento de repuestos que en teoría recibe las partes directo del fabricante y aun asi continuan los derrames.   This time, I checked again, and I got under the car and could clearly see that the oil pan was covered in oil. At first glance, that suggests a possible leak from the valve cover, so I decided to clean the area and see exactly where the oil was coming from. >Esta vez vuelvo a chequear y me voy debajo del carro y claramente se puede ver como el carter esta llenos de aceite, a primera vista eso me indica una posible fuga por el tapa valvulas, asi que decido limpiar la zona y ver exactamente por donde viene el aceite.  I ended up removing the timing belt cover, which on my car is split in half. The top part allows me to see the camshaft sprockets and check if those seals are good, but I can't remove the bottom cover without taking off the alternator and oil pump belts and the crankshaft pulley. However, I can still see from above and tell if it's pooling on the inside. >Término quitando la tapa de la correa del tiempo que en mi carro está dividida por la mitad, la de arriba me permite ver los piñones de los árboles de levas y asi se si esas estoperas están bien, pero la tapa de abajo no puedo quitarla si no retiro las correas del alternador, la de la bomba de aciete y tambien la polea del cigüeñal, sin embargo, me es posible ver desde arriba y saber si se está empozando por la parte interna.   After all the cleaning, I noticed a drop coming down the timing belt cover. It looks like it's coming from above, as if from the valve cover, but I stayed with the car running for a while and was able to confirm that it's definitely coming from the front crankshaft seal. This allows me to plan in terms of budget and time. I've done this about four times, so I know the process, but this time I want to do something more permanent, to find an additive besides the silicone that comes with the seal that will help the job last longer than just a few months. >Tras toda la limpieza hecha pude notar como una gota bajo por la tapa de la correa de tiempo, parece que viene de arriba como si fuera del tapa valvula, pero me quedé un rato con el carro en funcionamiento y pude corroborar que definitivamente viene de la estopera delantera del cigueñal. Esto me permite programarme en cuanto a presupuesto y tiempo, ya lo he realizado unas 4 veces así que se como es el proceso, pero esta vez quiero hacer algo mas duradero, encontrar algun aditivo mas alla de el silicon que acompaña la estopera que ayude a que el trabajo no dure solo unos meses.  *** _{Photos taken by ©danielcarrerag copyright reserved.
