Last-minute adjustments for a family trip [ENG/SPA]

Our family has wanted to take a trip to the beach for a while, but our excuse for not going is that the car is never quite in good enough shape for the short trip, even though the beach is only 40 minutes from our house. My youngest daughter has been practically begging me to take her for a long time, reminding me every day that summer break is almost over. So, I decided to do everything I could to get the car into at least the minimum condition for the trip, doing a full check-up and adjusting a few things. >#### Ajustes de último minuto para el viaje familiar >Desde hace tiempo como familia hemos querido hacer un viaje a la playa, pero la excusa para no ir es que el carro nunca está completamente en condiciones para hacer el pequeño viaje, a pesar que la playa nos queda a solo 40 minutos de casa. Mi hija menor me a casi que suplicado que la lleve desde hace mucho tiempo, recordandome todos los días que las vacaciones escolares esta por terminar, asi que decidi hacer lo más que pudiera para poner el carro en las condiciones mínimas por los menos para hacer el viajecito, haciendo una evaluación completa y ajustando algunas cosas.  First, I checked the spare tire, and to my surprise, it was pretty low on air, with only 15 PSI. This was definitely a big oversight on my part. Since we mostly just drive around town near home, I think that made me a little too relaxed about doing routine car maintenance. But that's no excuse—these checks used to be a habit for me. Maybe my mind has just been more focused on the more serious things I need to fix. >Lo primero que revise fue el caucho de repuesto, para mi sorpresa le faltaba bastante aire, solo tenía 15 PSI de aire, esto sin duda fue un gran descuido de mi parte. Como actualmente sólo nos movilizamos en nuestra ciudad cerca de casa, creo que eso hizo que me relajara un poco con la revisión de las partes del carro que deben ser una rutina, lo cierto es que esto no es una excusa, antes estas revisiones eran un habito para mi, quizás mi mente ha estado más enfocada las cosas más graves que debo arreglar.  Next, I worked on improving the look of the headlights. I've shared before that I use a 3M polishing compound that improves the transparency of the headlight material, and it lasts for at least three months. This was necessary because I know the return trip is usually at dusk, and some parts of the road might not be well-lit. >Lo siguiente que procedi a mejorar fue el aspecto de los faros delanteros de iluminación. Ya en otras ocasiones he compartido que utilizó un compuesto para abrillantar de 3M que mejora la transparencia del material de los faros, manteniéndose por al menos 3 meses. Esto fue necesario porque se que el retorno del viaje normalmente es en el ocaso y algunas secciones de la vía puede que no estén bien iluminadas.    I then checked the alternator and power steering pump belts, which also pass over the air compressor. The power steering belt needed an adjustment. In the last few weeks, when I would start the car, the belt would squeal for a couple of seconds before stopping, so I adjusted it and the sound went away. I just replaced this belt a few months ago, so that might be the reason it wasn't tight enough. >Pase a revisar las correas del alternador y la de la bomba hidráulica que pasa también por el compresor de aire. Esta última necesitaba un ajuste, en las últimas semanas cuando encendia el carro, comenzaba a sonar la correa por un par de segundos para luego quitarse y no volver a sonar, así que la ajuste y se quito el sonido. Esta correa la cambie hace solo unos meses así que puede que esa sea la razón del desajuste, no quedo bien tensada.   Finally, I added a quart of motor oil that was missing. This is one of the main reasons I didn't want to go on the beach trip—the car has been leaking oil, and it's losing it faster and faster, probably from the crankshaft seal that connects to the harmonic balancer. The worst part is that I had that same seal replaced just a few months ago. It’s a difficult job because you have to take apart the entire timing kit and other things. >Termine colocándole un litro de aceite de motor que faltaba, este es uno de los motivos por los que no quería hacer el viaje a la playa, el carro ha estado derramando aceite y cada vez lo pierde mas rápido, al parecer por la estopera del cigüeñal que da con el damper. Lo peor de esta situación es que manda a realizar el cambio de esa estopera hace solo unos meses atrás, es un trabajo difícil porque hay que desmontar todo el kit de tiempo del carro, y otras cosas mas.  This check-up and these small adjustments left me feeling much more at ease about taking the trip my family has been wanting so badly.
