A visit at the Pistoia Zoo

Coming back home from the summer holidays, we were looking for something to do with the little kid halfway… driving for many hours without stopping is not ideal for him since he would get bored to death, and even for us taking a break to stretch our legs isn’t a bad idea. We decided to stop at the Pistoia Zoo (Giardino Zoologico di Pistoia GZP).

The Pistoia Zoo is located in the hills a few kilometers outside the city, surrounded by greenery. it is one of the most important zoos in Italy. Founded in 1970, it covers about 7 hectares and hosts over 400 animals belonging to more than 100 different species, including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

It's true, seeing animals in cages is not the best, but the PZP, unlike many other zoos that exist just for themselves, plays an active role in the protection of biodiversity. As a guide explained to us, this means that it participates in international programs for the conservation of endangered species, such as the reintroduction of animals born in captivity into protected natural environments.

There are also educational activities, where the characteristics of various animals are explained in an engaging way, for example during the penguin feeding. Visiting the Pistoia Zoo was an interesting experience, especially for the child, hoping he can grow up respecting animals.

Enjoy the rest of the pictures!
