Forming a traffic circle in the center of Fifth Avenue and on the corner of 146th Street, near the popularly called "Paradero de Playa", in the capital municipality of the same name, is the equestrian monument that pays perpetual homage to Calixto Garcia Íñiguez, one of the most legendary and brave funerals of the war for the independence of Cuba in the 19th century.
The sculptural complex, formed in the center by the figure of the distinguished warrior riding on a spirited horse that advances hurriedly galloping, or rather in hurried march, on a high pedestal covered with large marble slabs, is surrounded by high walls in almost all the circumvallation.
Many legends are woven about this historical figure that speak of his courage and sense of personal and military ethics. At the top, and despite the height from the base of the pedestal to the head of the warrior, the creator of such an impressive work molded on the forehead the visible imprint of a shot with which the General tried to end his life before, and the possibility of falling prisoner of the enemy, of other feats is spoken about who participated in the three wars of liberty.
The story goes that one day his mother was told that Calixto had been taken prisoner by the Spaniards. She rested emphatically: no, that is not my son. Before giving himself up, my son shot himself in the head.
Although in a general sense I feel a certain aesthetic discordance between the modern structure of the straight walls that surround it and the classical form of the modeling of horse and rider, it is imposing from afar and the intention of the great homage to the great man.

Formando una rotonda en el centro de la quint avenida y en la esquina a la calle 146 , cerca del llamado popularmente " paradero de Playa, en el municipio capitalino del mismo nombre, esta el monumento ecuestre que rinde perpetuo homenaje a Calixto Garcia Íñiguez, uno de los funerales mas legendarios y bravíos dr oax guerras por la independencia de Cuba en e la siglo XlX.
El complejo escultorico , formado en el centro por la figura del insigne guerrero cabalgando sobre un brioso caballo que que avanza apurado al galope , o mas bien en marcha apurada, sobre un alto pedestal revestido con grandes lozas de mármol , está rodeado por altos muros en casi toda la circunvalación
Sobre este personaje historico se tejem muchas leyendas que hablan de su coraje y sentido de la ética personal y militar. Alla arriba .y a pesar de la altura desde a base del pedestal hasta la cabeza del guerrero , el creador de tan impresionante obra moldeo en la frente la visible huella de un disparo con el que el General trato de poner fin a su vida ante, y la posibilidad de caer prisionero del enemigo , De otras hazañas se habla sobre quien participo en las tres guerras libertarias.
Cuentan que un día le dijeron a su madre que Calixto habia caido prisionero de los españoles. Ella reposto rotundamente : no ese no es mi hijo . Mi hijo antes de entregarse se da un tiro en su cabeza.
Aunque en sentido genera siento cierta discordancia estetica entré la estructura moderna de loa rectos muros que lo rodean y la forma clásica del modelado de caballo y jinete, ses impone desde lejos s y la intencion del homenaje grande al hombre grande
Pero.lo que mase me gustó y que no Se nota si jno no su w unos . cuántos peldaños y uno decide mirar aquellos toscos muros por dentro.
Alli , y en bastante bien elaborados bajo relieves se narran escenas de la vida del general que van desde sus principales batallas, conferencias ,y otros pasajes de su vida , hasta los funerales en la capital cubana .
Estos bajo relieves impresionan , pues ademas de narrar esas historias son ejemplos de buena técnica donde con muy pocos recursos expresivos se e resuelven complejas situaciones de atmósfera. Proporciones y perspectiva lineal.
Es muy interesante que un hombre que sobrevivio a los rigores de tres guerras en los Montes y campos cubanos muera tres días despues del fin de esas sangrientas campañas,v en una cama vencido por una neumonía .
El monumento a Calixto García originalmente estuvo enclavado en la calle G. En el vedado Y desde el 2020 ocupar el lugar actual. Gracias Por acompañarme.
