How I Try to Manage My Small Money as a Student

Money on campus is always like breeze, it come and before you blink, it is gone. As a student, I feel this every time. There are too many things money is needed for. Books and handouts, food, transportation, data, group project, sometimes even just to sit with friends after class and relax. Without money, life on campus can turn to struggle.

For me, it is even more because I play football for my department and also for school team. That means extra expenses. Sometimes we need to buy boot, jersey, even small things like socks and shin guard, nobody give you free. And when school organize competition, you need to pay small contribution for transportation or water and food for team. All this come out of pocket money, and it is never enough.

So the way I try to manage is by planning small. Anytime I collect money from home, I divide it first. Food is number one, because without food I cannot even play ball or read book. Then I put small for transportation, because sometimes we travel out of campus for training or for match. Data is another thing I cannot joke with, because class assignment and group project need internet. After all this, whatever remain is what I can use for hanging out or buying extra snack.

Still, money never last. Many times I have to cut down on things. Like instead of buying new boot, I repair the old one again. Or when my friends are going out to eat, I sometimes say no because I need to save for next week. It is not easy, but I know I have to manage because my parents are also trying.

Being a student footballer teach me discipline with money. It make me understand I cannot just spend anyhow, because one day coach can say we have friendly match and I need to contribute for transport. Even though it is hard, I see it as training for future life.

Money may not stay long in my hand, but learning how to manage it is something that will help me later when I finish school.
