I have always wonder and keep wondering why indian is such a big country with many people, many culture, many religion and different language. Sometime I even wonder how we all manage to live together, because the difference is so much. But still, we find way to stay as one nation. That is why I believe social harmony is very important in India today.
When we talk of harmony, it simply mean peace and understanding between people. Without harmony, every small issue go turn to big fight. Just to remember when I travel to Delhi and stay with a family that is not from my religion. At first I was scare because I don’t know how they will see me. But to my surprise, they treat me like their own, even invite me to join their prayer. That time I learn that love and kindness no dey look religion or language, it is inside human heart it is.
But truth be told, harmony is not always easy. Sometimes politician use religion and casting to divide people. Sometimes neighbor fight over small issue like festival noise, water or land matter. This kind of thing can spoil the peace of a country we suppose to enjoy together. When harmony break, it bring anger, fight and even violence, and normal people like me and you suffer the most.
So what can we do? I think it start from small place, like our home, our street, our school. If I respect my friend religion, and he respect mine, already we are building peace. If landlord allow tenant from different background and still treat them fair like his own that is harmony. Even when we play cricket or watch football together, we forget who is Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Sikh we just enjoy the game as one.
India is beautiful because of this diversity of many kinds of tribes and religion It is like different colors joining to make one strong cloth. If one color is missing, it will not look complete. Same way, if harmony is missing, the country will not stand strong and no unity.
In today world where everybody want to prove they are right, maybe what we need most is to listen more and fight less. Social harmony is not big grammar, it is just about living in peace with the next person closer to you and understanding your living.
