There are movies that were made to entertain with fictional stories, and there are movies that are made to educate and many of them are based on true stories and are my favorites, I saw this movie more than 10 years ago, since it is from 2008, I saw it again for the second time because I loved the fact that at that time I did not know what Tourette syndrome is, which is a disorder of the nervous system that causes people who suffer from it to make repetitive movements and sounds, something that if you do not know it could seem very strange or annoying to you.
Hay películas que fueron hechas para entretener con historias ficticias, y hay películas que son hechas para educar y muchas de ellas son basadas en historias reales y son de mis favoritas, esta película la vi hace más de 10 años, ya que es del 2008, la volví a ver por segunda vez porque me encanto el hecho de que en ese momento yo no conocía lo que es el sindrome de tourette, que es un trastorno del sistema nervioso que hace que las personas que lo padecen hagan movimientos y sonidos repetitivos, algo que si no lo sabes te podría parecer muy extraño o molesto.

I'm talking about "Top of the Class," a beautiful film that everyone should see. It's based on the book by Professor Brad Cohen, where we learn a little about his life from childhood to adulthood, living with Tourette's syndrome. When Brad was a child, he had to live through some very awkward and unfair moments at school. He was rejected a lot by both his classmates and teachers for the sounds he made involuntarily. This was very frustrating for him because he didn't know how to explain to people that he wasn't doing it on purpose. The only one who supported and understood him was his mother, because his father was the complete opposite.
Les hablo de "El primero de la clase" una película muy hermosa que todos deberían ver, y que esta basada en el libro del profesor Brad Cohen donde podremos conocer un poco sobre como fue su vida desde su infancia hasta su adultes conviviendo con el sindrome de tourette. Cuando Brad era un niño, le toco vivir momentos muy incómodos e injustos en el colegio, recibió mucho rechazo tanto de parte de sus compañeros, como de los profesores por los sonidos que hacía involuntariamente, algo que era muy frustrante para él porque no sabia como explicarle a las personas que era algo que no hacia a propósito, la única que lo apoyaba y lo entendía era su madre, porque su padre era todo lo contrario.

None of the doctors he'd gone to knew what was wrong with Brad until his mother did some personal research and discovered that her son had Tourette's syndrome, something that had no cure. But Brad never gave up, nor did he let this condition or people's mockery prevent him from having a normal life. That's how he became an elementary school teacher, which was his big dream: to educate and teach children. But at first, it wasn't an easy task for him to be accepted as a teacher in schools because of his syndrome, which is why he was rejected many times in interviews. Even so, he never gave up, always insisted and persevered until he found the ideal school that would accept him just as he was.
Ninguno de los doctores a donde había ido sabia que era lo que le pasaba a Brad, hasta que su madre hizo una investigación personal y encontró que lo que tenia su hijo era el sindrome de tourette algo que no tenia cura. Pero Brad nunca se rindió, ni dejo que esta condición o las burlas de las personas le impidieran tener una vida normal. Así fue como se convirtió en maestro de primaría que era su gran sueño, educar y enseñar a los niños, pero al inicio no fue una tarea fácil para él ser aceptado como maestro en los colegios, debido a su sindrome, por lo cual fue rechazado muchas veces en las entrevistas, aún así, nunca se rindió, siempre insistió y persevero hasta encontrar el colegio ideal que si lo aceptará tal cual era.

It's a story that teaches us the harm that a lack of information and knowledge can do to others, and how important it is to educate society about the different illnesses that exist, both cognitively and physically. We also learn that we shouldn't underestimate or devalue people with these conditions and view them as freaks. They're just like us, just with different abilities. And if we have the right knowledge, we can help them lead fuller, happier, and more normal lives, integrating them into society like anyone else. We live in such a developed world with so much technology and knowledge that it should make their lives easier and give them the same opportunities as everyone else, tailored to their abilities.
Es una historia que nos enseña el daño que hace a los demás la falta de información y conocimiento, y lo importante que es educar a la sociedad sobre las diferentes enfermedades que existen, a nivel cognitivo y físico, y que no debemos menospreciar o desvalorar y ver como bichos raros a las personas que tengan estas condiciones, porque son personas iguales que nosotros, solo que con capacidades diferentes, y si tenemos el conocimiento correcto, podremos ayudarles a llevar una vida más plena, feliz y normal, integrándolos a la sociedad como cualquier otra persona. Vivimos en un mundo tan desarrollado y con tanta tecnología y conocimiento el cual debería facilitarles la vida y brindarle las mismas oportunidades que los demás, adaptadas a sus capacidades.

What I loved most about this film was lead actor Jimmy Wolk's ability to perfectly portray Brad's real-life condition. You'd actually think he had the syndrome in real life. He's an excellent actor and masterfully portrayed the character. Although the film's image quality isn't the best and it doesn't have a complex or in-depth plot, it's a great film that achieved what it sought: to educate the viewer and bring to light a reality that many adults and children suffer from today. Lo que más me encanto de esta película fue la capacidad que tuvo el protagonista Jimmy Wolk para interpretar a la perfección la condición real de Brad, realmente pensarías que tiene el síndrome en la vida real, es un excelente actor e interpreto de forma magistral el personaje. Aunque la película a nivel de calidad de imagen no es la mejor y no tenga un trama compleja y profunda, es una gran película que logro lo que buscaba, educar al espectador y hacer visible una realidad que sufren muchos adultos y niños hoy día, así que de verdad recomiendo a todos verla en familia. ¡Gracias por leerme y llegar hasta el final, si ya conocías esta película, déjame saber tus comentarios!
