In this post I will be making a comparison between two luxury gowns I made for a client with specific attention to the difference and similarities in the fabrics, the design and style, comfortability, the occasions you can wear it to and the experience I had during the sewing process. It is a beautiful experience creating a custom gown especially when it is made with luxurious fabrics like George fabrics and lace fabrics.

So, let's begin the comparison between the two gowns by starting with the fabrics. At first glance both gowns appear to be the same color - pink, but when you look closely you'd realise that that the lace gown has a deeper pink color while the George gown is a ligther shade.

The lace gown is made using beaded lace for the skirt part and crepe fabrics for the upper part while the George gown is made using George fabrics for the skirt part, plain crepe fabrics for the bodice and beaded lace that came as part of the George set.

In terms of luxury, both lace and George fabrics are seen as high status fabrics. However, George fabrics, in my opinion carry more prestige and they are often more expensive. They are usually embellished with beads and stones which make them come on top of the list for luxury outings. Lace fabrics, on the other hand is usually embroidered with sequins and beads which makes them elegant and sparkling.

Even though both gowns share the hourglass silhouette popularly known as figure eight, certain designs sets them apart. The George gown is made using a Queen Anne neckline alongside sleeves made from skin illusion net which gives it an amazing sophisticated look. On the other hand, the lace gown is designed with a sweetheart neckline and chantilly lace for the sleeves. The distinctive necklines and sleeves shows a subtle difference between the two outfits.

As a fashion designer we have different unique experiences when we are making dresses, it may be due to our emotions, the fabrics we are working with or even the people around us at the particular time. It was easier for me to make the George gown because the beaded lace that came with the set was simple to work with. I had to only trim and attach to the dress with gum as embellishments. Unlike the lace gown that required more time and energy. After I had completed the crepe base of the skirt, I had to hand stitch the beaded lace onto it which took so much time. Also, I hand-beaded the bustier too to create a custom sparkle effect which was time demanding.

Furthermore, let us talk about Comfortability. The lace gown would have been itchy and irritate the skin because of the sequins on it but the base of the gown was made with crepe fabrics, so it will totally eliminate the itchiness. The George gown is still more comfortable even though it is slightly heavy due to the beads and stones. In short, both outfits offer comfortability.

Also, both outfits are a perfect choice whether you are attending a wedding, birthday party, red carpet event or cultural events.

While both the George gown and the lace gown are both beautiful in their own way my favourite is the George gown. Beyond the luxurious feel, the gown allows for styling flexibility, in other words, it can be styled in multiple ways which makes it valuable for a long term and make it look like you are wearing a brand new outfit.
