Hey lovelies ❤️ It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍 Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be sharing the process of making a peplum blouse that I made for a customer with you. The blouse is made using a beautiful patterned ankara fabrics and other materials. Peplum dress are always stunning when properly styled as it brings out the beauty and elegance in a person.

Materials Needed - 2½ yards Ankara fabric - 2½ yards lining - 1½ yards gum stay - ½ roll crinoline - Zipper - Matching threads - Tailoring chalk

Measurements - Bust - 46" - Upper bust - 42" - Under bust - 16.5" - Top length - 26" - Waist - 42" - Sleeve length - 25" - Round sleeve - 16"

Step by Step - Start by folding your ankara fabric and lining into two along the lengthwise grain and draft the bodice pattern using your bust (46'), waist (42'), and length (26') measurements. 1000245634.jpg - Next, you will mark the front and back bodice pieces on both the Ankara and lining fabrics and cut the out. Remember to make provision for dart both for the front and back. 1000245633.jpg - Also, around all pattern edges add 1' seam allowances before cutting. 1000245635.jpg - Then attach the paper stay to the wrong side of the Ankara bodice pieces for structure using your pressing iron. 1000245635.jpg

  • Next, use your sewing machine to join the bodice of both lining and fabric and shoulder together accordingly.

  • That is, place the main fabric and lining right sides together and sew along the neckline. Then notch the neckline curve and turn it right side out, then press flat using your pressing iron.

  • Next, sew the side seams of both the fabric and lining.

  • Now, draft the peplum circle using the waist measurement (42") as the inner circle. Use a full circle or half-circle flare depending on your desired volume, but for me am making use of double full circle flare.

  • Next, cut the peplum from both Ankara and lining, then add seam allowance.

  • Next, attach paper stay to the flare and attach crinoline to the bottom edge of the Ankara peplum to give it structure.

  • Then sew the Ankara and lining peplum pieces together at the hem (right sides facing), turn and give a good press.

  • In some cases yoy may need to pleat the top edge of the peplum to fit the waistline but in my case I didn’t have to pleat it of gather it. It was just perfect.

  • So, with the right sides facing each other attach the peplum to the bodice by matching the waist seams.

  • Now, it is time to insert the zipper at the center of the back piece.

  • Next, draft and cut the sleeves using the sleeve length (25") and making the width as big as you want it, mine was 22" wide onfold.

  • Sew the sides of the sleeve and attach them to the armholes.

  • Then give all seams a good press and use overlocking stitches (weaving) to give all the edges a clean look.

  • Wear the top on a mannequin and check if there is any adjustments needed.

  • Your peplum top is ready.
