In this post I will be sharing with you how to make a six pieces blouse using ankara fabrics. The blouse is for a customer who wanted a blouse she could wear to the office on Fridays. In Nigeria, it is a form of culture and tradition to wear traditional outfits on Fridays rather than the usual corporate attire that we wear on Monday through Thursday.

She bought a beautiful ankara fabric which she aim to use to sew something stylish yet casual enough to pair with jeans or pants for work or casual outings.

I really loved how the blouse turned out so beautiful and elegant, i might be making something similar for myself soon.

Materials used
- Ankara fabrics
- Breast pad
- hair stay
- Hemming gum
- Tailoring chalk
- Zip

Step by Step
- Start by using your tailoring chalk to mark out all the measurements on the fabric. These are the following measurements we will use: bust 46", shoulder 17", bust length 16", half length 19", under bust 41", waist 42", and top length 26".

  • Next, we will begin to cut the fabrics, so fold the fabrics into two and take the length of the top (26"), then take 1.5" for zipper (our zip with be in front for this blouse).

  • Then take the bodice measurements with bustier at the down side of the dart (center front ) come out by 3", this will reduce the measurements of the side front.

  • So, after cutting it out we will replace it with another fabric that has another design and add the 3" we took out initially and add another 3" to it again. This is to enable the blouse look like a flare from the waist part.
  • Use this piece to cut the back and cut out the lining.

  • Iron hair stay and breast pad to the lining of the front piece, then head over to the machine and sew.

  • Then sew the shoulder seams by joining the front and back pieces at the left and right shoulder lines.

  • Now, sew the side seams and shape all the sides accordingly to fit the customer.

  • Next, we will attach the sleeves to the armholes. The sleeve we will be using for the blouse is a funnel sleeve.

  • To cut the sleeve fold your fabric into two and fold again into four, then ensure it has a triangular shape and cut the circumference of the arm hole, mine is 13" and my sleeve length is 25", so I styled it the way I wanted it. That is, one side will be longer than the other side ensuring the fit complements the shoulder width of 17".

  • Next, give the blouse a good press and flatten all the seams.

  • Try on the blouse on your mannequin or on your body to check the fitting and if needed make adjustments.

  • Your stylish six pieces blouse is ready.
