Let me say that they only need personal relationship with God but what they forgot is itself the use of the word which means worship to describe the true religion. If religion means worship then the objective religion is the same thing as injecting that art of worship, worshiping God, so that alone can change your perspective.
What's important there is how we connect it to the meaning of religion, which is binding again. We have learned to know that humanity differed away from God through sin, pride and disobedience. Because of this oppression we need to reconnect back to Him.
