“Well, you wouldn't think things could get hotter in Lofton County's politics, but poor George Hyde really stunk up the joint,” Mr. Thomas Stepforth said to his wife Velma. “The people have figured out that not only is the incumbent party a total mess, but the other side has had this information all along and wouldn't put it out there so they could be slightly less of a mess and be praised and elected for it.”
“Well, we've been saying that, but some people don't get it until the trouble comes to their house,” Mrs. Stepforth said.
“That's a problem at least as old as the book of Exodus,” Mr. Stepforth said. “Folks thought it was cool to drag other people's babies out of their arms and throw those babies into the Nile River, but it wasn't so great with the death angel came into their homes and killed off their firstborn – but only then were they ready to let God's people go. If you need it to come up into your home before you are ready to stop supporting foolery, that will be arranged – and that is just what has happened in Lofton County!”
“Well, 'purple up, stupidity down,' and all that,” Mrs. Stepforth said.
“Yeah, we're not generally going out to protest on this one – our people have only been shouting an alarm for 401 years, and it's time for the rest to get active and save themselves,” Mr. Stepforth said. “I love to see people like Capt. Ludlow stepping up and on some of these people's heads! I mean, he was a class act at that meeting – his facial expressions and body language were a world of good entertainment!”
“I mean I have never seen a man say so much without saying a word!” Mrs. Stepforth said. “He knew they were going to try to find a reason to get him out of there and maybe worse if he raised that big voice of his – so he stayed quiet, and let the people rise up around him!”
“What he did to George Hyde yesterday was frankly not even fair,” Mr. Stepforth said. “He scorn-purred that man into telling Tom and thus the Lofton County Free Voice where to find so much stuff that the Free Voice went on and called the Big Loft Bulletin and said, 'We would scoop you, but this is too much for us to just report alone – if we combine our manpower, we can get this done right.'”
“Wonders never cease,” Mrs. Stepforth said. “The collaboration nobody wanted, but that we all needed!”
“I'm just waiting for people to figure out calling Capt. Ludlow without a plan is not the plan,” Mr. Stepforth said, “but if you need the problem to get right up on you before you realize you have the problem, he seems to always oblige. These kids have some legendary stories, too!”
“But that just proves the point, Thomas,” Mrs. Stepforth said. “All these folks calling and getting their eardrums and their egos absolutely destroyed – it's not us. The call is coming from inside the house.”
“Yep,” Mr. Stepforth said. “All we can pray is that there be some realization and activity in that house toward a better future for everyone.”
