Przez ostatnie pół roku miałem kuchnię beż podłogi. To też nie tak, że była tam wielka dziura, na starych deskach były przykręcone kawałki płyt wiórowych. Jak się okazało nawet nie były równe, ale do tego jeszcze dojdziemy. Mój pierwotny plan na kuchnię zakładał położenie białych płytek pod meble wokół i zrobienie mozaiki po środku z drobnych elementów. Odkładałem to i odkładałem, koncepcja zmieniała się parokrotnie, wraz z tym jak odkrywałem ciekawe wzory, ale ostatecznie było to zbyt pracochłonne. Poza tym, nigdy wcześniej nie układałem mozaiki z płytek. Skończyło się więc na białej obwódce pod meblami i pustym środku.
Dopiero parę tygodni temu znalazłem powystawowe płytki 1200x1200mm, to otworzyło mi oczy na nowe możliwości. Im mniej fugi w kuchni tym lepiej, łatwiej to utrzymać w czystości i przyjemniej się po tym stąpa. Okazało się jednak, że ze względu na wymaganą grubość kleju pod takie duże płytki, nowe duże płyty nie będę kompatybilne z białymi. Zdecydowałem się więc skuć stare płytki i wszystko położyć od nowa używając już tylko dużych płyt. Przy okazji przykryłem zapasowy kabel i rurę kanalizacyjną, znajdują się one 140cm od ściany z gniazdem elektrycznym i 120cm od ściany łazienkowej. Czy blockchain to nie jest idealne miejsce do przechowania takiej informacji dla przyszłych budowlańców? Teraz jeszcze tylko naklejka z kodem QR :D
Okazało się, że oprócz grubszej warstwy kleju duże płytki wymagają też równiejszego podłoża. A o to tutaj ciężko. Byłoby nawet znośnie gdyby nie bruzda wycięta przez ekipę montującą ogrzewanie, przecięli na wylot przez deski. Podłogą stała się tu mocno niestabilna i musiałem się sporo napracować, żeby jakoś to załatać. Nie wszędzie udało się dobrać płyty o równej grubości i właśnie teraz przy układaniu wielkoformatowych płytek ten problem dał o dobie znać. Przez chwilę myślałem o zfrezowaniu wystającej podłogi, ale wszystko miałbym pokryte warstwą kurzu. Pozostało więc mozolne skuwanie młotkiem i dłutem. Ahoj przygodo.
Z pierwszą płytką nie było problemów, ale kiedy druga nie chciała się zlicować musiałem ją podnieść, oczyścić z kleju i nocą skuwać jeszcze kawał podłogi. Ostatecznie zastosowałem odrobinę cieńszą warstwę kleju i płytki udało się ułożyć prawie idealnie na równo.
Zostały jeszcze cztery do ułożenia, ale w międzyczasie mam jeszcze inne zadania. Dziś na przykład zamontowałem blat ze zlewem w drugiej kuchni.

For the past six months, I had a kitchen without a floor. It’s not like there was a big hole—there were just pieces of particle board screwed onto the old wooden planks. As it turned out, they weren’t even level, but we’ll get to that. My original plan for the kitchen was to lay white tiles under the furniture around the perimeter and make a mosaic in the center with small elements. I kept postponing it, and the concept changed several times as I discovered interesting patterns, but ultimately it turned out to be too labor-intensive. Besides, I had never laid tile mosaic before. So it ended up with a white border under the furniture and an empty middle.
Only a few weeks ago, I found some display-model 1200x1200mm tiles, and that opened my eyes to new possibilities. The fewer grout lines in a kitchen, the better—it’s easier to keep clean and more pleasant to walk on. However, it turned out that due to the thickness of adhesive required for such large tiles, the new large tiles wouldn’t be compatible with the white ones. So I decided to chip off the old tiles and lay everything anew using only large tiles. There is cable and exit pipe covered by new tiles, 140cm from the wall with power outlet, 120cm from the other wall. Isn't blockchain a great place to store such information for future renovators? It turned out that in addition to a thicker adhesive layer, large tiles also require a more even subfloor. And that’s hard to come by here. It would have been tolerable if not for the groove cut by the team that installed the heating—they cut straight through the planks. The floor became quite unstable in that area, and I had to work hard to patch it somehow. I couldn’t always find boards of equal thickness, and now, while laying the large-format tiles, this problem came back to haunt me. For a moment I thought about planing down the protruding floor, but everything would have been covered in dust. So I was left with the tedious task of chiseling with a hammer and chisel. Ahoy, adventure.
There were no problems with the first tile, but when the second one wouldn’t level properly, I had to lift it, clean off the adhesive, and chip away another bit of the floor late at night. In the end, I used a slightly thinner layer of adhesive, and the tiles were laid almost perfectly level.
There are four more tiles left to lay, but in the meantime, I have other tasks. For example, today I installed a countertop with a sink in the second kitchen.
