Good evening everyone,
Today I bring you to discover the city of **Aquileia**, a **Roman jewel** located in the province of Udine (Friuli-Venezia Giulia region).
It's also called "the second Rome" because in ancient times it was **one of the largest and most important cities of the Roman Empire**. Numerous remnants of that civilization's presence can still be admired today.

Oggi vi porto a scoprire la città di **Aquileia**, un **gioiello di epoca romana** che si trova in provincia di Udine (regione Friuli-Venezia Giulia).
Viene anche chiamata “la seconda Roma”, perché in epoche antiche era **una delle città più importanti e grandi dell’Impero Romano**. Si possono ammirare ancora oggi numerosi resti del passaggio di quella civiltà.

My trip to Aquileia lasted just **one day**, although perhaps two days would have been necessary, as there are so many things to see. It's a very easy city to explore **on foot**, and you'll see many religious tourists, as it is one of the most important destinations for the Christian world.
The first stop was the **Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta**, located in a beautiful square called Piazza Capitolo. This church dates back to 300 AD, but I must say it is impeccably preserved!
What fascinated me most are the **mosaics** inside. Both the walls and the floor are home to numerous entirely handcrafted mosaics. I discovered that the floor, in particular, is the largest mosaic in the Roman West!
La mia gita ad Aquileia è durata **un solo giorno**, anche se forse sarebbero stati necessari due giorni, perché ci sono davvero tante cose da vedere. È una città facilissima da girare **a piedi** e potrete vedere molti turisti religiosi, perché è una delle mete più importanti per il mondo cristiano.
La prima tappa è stata la **Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta**, che si trova disposta in una piazza bellissima chiamata Piazza Capitolo. Pensate che questa chiesa risale al 300 d.C., ma devo dire che è conservata in maniera impeccabile!
Quello che mi ha affascinato di più sono i **mosaici** presenti all’interno. Sia le pareti, che il pavimento, ospitano numerosi mosaici interamente artigianali. Ho scoperto che, in particolare, il pavimento costituisce il mosaico più grande dell’Occidente romano!

Inside the Basilica, you can also visit the **crypts**: two examples of medieval architecture with frescoed walls and mosaics.
The **Baptistery**, on the other hand, is very unique because it has an octagonal shape, and inside there is a large basin where baptisms are still celebrated today. A true piece of history!
All’interno della Basilica si possono visitare anche le **cripte**: due esempi di architettura medievale con pareti affrescate e mosaici.
Il **Battistero**, invece, è molto particolare perché ha una forma ottagonale, e all’interno è presente una grande vasca dove vengono ancora oggi celebrati i Battesimi. Un vero pezzo di storia!

Next, I visited the **Archaeological Museum of Aquileia**, a space spread over three floors, where you can find archaeological finds, mosaics, and **sculptures**. The section dedicated to ancient coins is also very interesting.
The main problem here was taking some souvenir photos, because the lighting isn't the best. I think they should reconsider the position of the lamps to better showcase the archaeological finds. I hope I've managed to convey the **beauty of this place** to you!

Successivamente mi sono recata a visitare il **Museo Archeologico di Aquileia**, uno spazio sviluppato su tre piani, dove si possono trovare reperti archeologici, mosaici e **sculture**. Anche la parte dedicata alle monete antiche è molto interessante.
Il problema principale qui è stato scattare qualche foto ricordo, perché l’illuminazione non è delle migliori. Secondo me dovrebbero rivedere la posizione delle lampade, per poter valorizzare al meglio i reperti archeologici. Spero di essere riuscita in ogni caso a farvi percepire la **bellezza di questo luogo**!
