Un uomo italiano, dopo 55 anni di dura vita di città, decide di comprarsi un pezzo di terra vicino al lago di Bolsena per vivere il resto della propria vita occupandosi **delle piante e del giardinaggio**. Writer of numerous texts and winners of botanical prizes, **Gian Lupo Osti** was an Italian author, famous in the field of gardening and natural cultivation.
He was one of the founders, in 1986, of the Association of **Friends of the Botanical Gardens** and dealt with the rescue and restoration of the Hanbury Park.
The activity for which it is most famous is undoubtedly the **study of peonies**. He organized, together with the Chinese colleagues, some shipments in search of arboreal peonies in their **natural habitat** (China mountain chains). When they discovered a new species, the botanists decided to give her his name: Paeonia Ostii.
### Plot and personal considerations
As you can see from the number of pages, it’s a **small book**. You can read it all in one breath, it’s perfect for a relaxing weekend immersed in nature. A nice text, full of **pearls of wisdom** that can also be adapted to the present day.
Gardening enthusiasts will agree with me in saying that there is no better perspective than that described by this book: **aging in the garden**, in the sense of moving, at a certain age, to a place in close contact with nature, dedicating themselves to the **cycles of life** and the **slow passage of the seasons**.
The idea of this text is very simple, but captivating: telling the life of a man who has decided, after 55 years, to move close to Lake Bolsena, abandoning the chaotic of the city.
At the end of the book, the thought is spontaneous: "I wish it had had more pages!". Pages are engaging and full of food for thought. Before reading it, **I must admit that I didn't know this author**. It fascinated me his ability to arrive with the words straight to the hearts of people, and I decided to buy some other books (reviews in the future will arrive!).
In our frenetic society we have completely lost the **beauty of slowness, working with our hands, of taking care of small living beings** such as plants. This book brings back to the ground.

### Trama e considerazioni personali
Come potete vedere dal numero di pagine, si tratta di un **libro di piccole dimensioni**. Si legge tutto d’un fiato, è perfetto per un weekend rilassante immersi nella natura. Un testo simpatico, ricco di **perle di saggezza** che possono essere adattate anche ai giorni nostri.
Gli appassionati di giardinaggio saranno d’accordo con me nel dire che non c’è prospettiva migliore di quella descritta da questo libro: **invecchiare in giardino**, nel senso di ritirarsi, a una certa età, in un luogo a stretto contatto con la natura, dedicandosi ai **cicli della vita** e al **passare lento delle stagioni**.
L’idea di questo testo è molto semplice, ma accattivante: raccontare la vita di un uomo che ha deciso, dopo 55 anni, di trasferirsi vicino al lago di Bolsena, abbandonando la caoticità della città.
Alla fine del libro, il pensiero è spontaneo: “Vorrei fosse durato di più!”. Le pagine sono coinvolgenti e ricche di spunti di riflessione. Prima di leggerlo, **devo ammettere che non conoscevo questo autore**. Mi ha affascinato la sua capacità di arrivare con le parole dritto al cuore delle persone, e ho deciso di acquistare qualche altro suo libro (arriveranno recensioni in futuro!).
Nella nostra società frenetica abbiamo perso completamente la **bellezza della lentezza, del lavorare con le mani, di prendersi cura di piccoli esseri viventi** come le piante. Questo libro fa tornare con i piedi per terra.

### Conclusion
The title deceived, because it can make you think that the book is suitable only for the old or people who are aging. Quite the opposite, however, because **I would recommend this text to young people**. We have a lot to learn from the experiences of the people who are no longer there, including the magical lord of the peonies who wrote this book.

Il titolo trae in inganno, perché può far pensare che il libro sia adatto solo ai vecchi o alle persone che stanno invecchiando. Tutt’altro, invece, perché **consiglierei questo testo proprio ai giovani**. Abbiamo molto da imparare dalle esperienze delle persone che non ci sono più, comprese il magico signore delle peonie che ha scritto questo libro.
