Good morning dear Hivers,
This post is a little different than usual and is dedicated to all those people who love food.
Last month, I was in **Salento**, in southern Italy, to celebrate the wedding of two dear friends. **One of the most famous things about this region is its food**!
In fact, most tourists come to Salento for the **crystal-clear sea**, the **baroque culture**, and the delicious **traditional recipes**.

Questo post è un po’ diverso dal solito ed è dedicato a tutti coloro che adorano la buona cucina.
Lo scorso mese sono stata in **Salento**, al sud Italia, per festeggiare il matrimonio di due cari amici. **Una delle cose più famose di questa regione è il cibo**!
Infatti, la maggior parte dei turisti si reca in Salento per il **mare cristallino**, la **cultura barocca** e le deliziose **ricette tipiche**.
Let's start with breakfast. The typical dish is "**pasticciotto con caffè leccese**".
What does that mean? A pasticciotto is a long shortcrust **pastry filled with ricotta, pistachio, or berry cream**. You can also find vegan and gluten-free versions of pasticciotto.
Caffè leccese, on the other hand, is a **coffee** served with **ice** and **almond milk**.
This combination is a fantastic way to start the day!
Partiamo con la colazione. La tipica proposta è il “**pasticciotto con caffè leccese**”.
Che cosa significa? Il pasticciotto è un dolce di **pasta frolla dalla forma allungata, ripieno con crema alla ricotta, al pistacchio o ai frutti di bosco**. Puoi anche trovare versioni vegane e senza glutine di pasticciotto.
Il caffè leccese, invece, è un **caffè** servito con il **ghiaccio** e il **latte di mandorla**.
Questa combinazione è fantastica per iniziare la giornata con il piede giusto!

Salento is a part of the Puglia region completely surrounded by the sea. This means that **seafood dishes are part of the local tradition**.
I don't eat fish because I follow a plant-based diet, but my boyfriend assured me that everything he tasted was excellent.
Some examples include **spaghetti allo scoglio**, macaroni with **swordfish**, baked **sea bream**, **gnocchi** with zucchini and shrimp, **fried seafood** and **octopus**.
Il Salento è una parte della regione Puglia completamente bagnata dal mare. Questo significa che **i piatti di pesce fanno parte della tradizione locale**.
Io non mangio il pesce perché seguo una dieta vegetale, ma il mio compagno mi ha assicurato che tutto quello che ha assaggiato era di grande qualità.
Alcuni esempi sono: **spaghetti allo scoglio**, maccheroni con **pesce spada**, **orata** al forno, **gnocchi** con zucchine e gamberetti, **frittura di mare** e **polpo**.

But there's no shortage of **vegan and vegetarian dishes**. For example, the cheeses are simply delicious, and one of the most famous is **burrata**, a special type of stuffed mozzarella.
The **homemade pasta** is simply delicious, and my favorite was **orecchiette with turnip greens**. "Orecchiette" means "little ear," a name derived from the unique shape of this type of pasta.
Other vegetarian dishes we tried were pasta with **fried eggplant** and a dish with **broad beans and chicory**.
Ma non mancano anche i **piatti vegani e vegetariani**. Per esempio, i formaggi sono semplicemente deliziosi e uno dei più famosi è la **burrata**, una particolare tipologia di mozzarella ripiena.
La **pasta fatta in casa** è semplicemente deliziosa e il mio piatto preferito sono state le **orecchiette con le cime di rapa**. “Orecchiette” significa “piccola orecchia” e questo nome deriva dalla forma originale che ha questa tipologia di pasta.
Altri piatti vegetariani che abbiamo provato sono stati la pasta con **melanzane fritte** e un piatto con **fave e cicoria**.
Another Salento specialty is **puccia**, a type of bread made with pizza dough and baked in the oven, filled with all sorts of delicacies.
In my case, it was a **vegan puccia with lentil burgers, arugula, avocado, and sun-dried tomatoes**. Very tasty!
Un’altra specialità salentina è la **puccia**, ovvero una tipologia di pane realizzato con l’impasto della pizza e cotto al forno, ripieno di ogni prelibatezza.
Nel mio caso era una **puccia vegana con burger di lenticchie, rucola, avocado e pomodori secchi**. Delizioso!
In Salento, we also tried **gelato** and **granita**. Although I prefer the Sicilian version, I must say it didn't disappoint. We tried the mango and coconut flavors.
