**October** is a truly special month for those who grow vegetables in Italy. Some typically **summer plants** stop producing, like tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants, but it's also too early for **winter vegetables**.

**Ottobre** è un mese davvero particolare per chi coltiva l’orto in Italia. Ci sono alcune **piante tipicamente estive** che smettono di essere produttive, come pomodori, peperoni e melanzane, ma è anche troppo presto per le **verdure invernali**.

It's a **transitional month**, marking the transition between the heat of summer and the harshness of winter. There's not much work to do, aside from keeping the soil clear and removing plants that are no longer productive.
Therefore, **it's the perfect time to think**. In fact, we all know that a garden must be planned first in the mind, and only then in the soil.
I'm already starting to fantasize about **which seeds to buy for 2026**, perhaps **setting up a seedbed** (grow-box) in our basement. I'll have to see if my boyfriend @ghilvar is okay with that!
È un **mese di transizione**, quindi, che definisce il passaggio tra il caldo dell’estate e la rigidità dell’inverno. Non ci sono molti lavori da fare, a parte tenere pulito il terreno e rimuovere le piante che non sono più produttive.
Quindi, si tratta del **periodo perfetto per pensare**. Infatti, lo sappiamo tutti che un orto va progettato prima nella mente, e solo dopo nella terra.
Sto già iniziando a fantasticare su **quali semi acquistare per il 2026**, magari **mettendo a punto una serra per le sementi** (grow-box) in cantina. Devo capire se il mio fidanzato @ghilvar è d’accordo!

In October, you can find **fennel**, **lettuce**, and **black cabbage** in the garden. They're both healing and purifying plants, just what we need during this change of season!
With black cabbage you can also make **delicious legume soups**, typical of the Tuscany region.
The **persimmon** tree is full of fruit, and in a few weeks, they'll be ripe enough to eat.
A ottobre nel giardino è possibile trovare i **finocchi**, le **insalate** e il **cavolo nero**. Sono entrambe piante curative e depurative, quello che serve in questo cambio di stagione!
Con il cavolo nero si fanno anche **deliziose zuppe con i legumi**, tipiche della regione Toscana.
L’albero di **cachi** è pieno di frutti e tra qualche settimana saranno maturi abbastanza da poterli mangiare.

I also really like the **incense** plants and the colors of the **nasturtium and daisy flowers** (which here are called "settembrini," meaning "little September," precisely because they're so beautiful in autumn).

Mi piacciono molto anche le piante di **incenso** e i colori dei **fiori di nasturzio e margherite** (che qui si chiamano “settembrini” che significa “piccolo settembre”, appunto per il fatto che sono splendidi in autunno).
