If you’re looking for a place in Northern Italy **where you can spend a day surrounded by uncontaminated nature and a historic center rich in history**, then **Asolo** is for you!
It’s a small town in the province of Treviso, in the Veneto region, which has won the award for “**Borgo più bello d’Italia**” (“Most beautiful village in Italy”) in recent years.
I passed through Asolo almost by chance, during a weekend away, and I didn't expect it to be so enchanting!
Its main characteristic is being a **fortified city**, with well-preserved medieval walls. It’s located on the top of a hill, surrounded by the Belluno Prealps. But there isn’t only the naturalistic aspect, because in Asolo you can also find **history, art, culture, food and wine**.

Se state cercando una località al Nord Italia **dove passare una giornata circondati da natura incontaminata e un centro storico ricco di storia**, allora **Asolo** fa per voi!
Si tratta di un piccolo paese in provincia di Treviso, nella regione Veneto, che ha vinto il premio di “**Borgo più bello d’Italia**” negli scorsi anni.
Sono passata per Asolo quasi per caso, durante l’itinerario di un fine settimana fuori porta, e non mi aspettavo fosse così incantevole!
La sua caratteristica principale è essere una **città fortificata**, con le mura medievali ben conservate. Si trova sulla cima di una collina, circondata dalle Prealpi Bellunesi. Ma non c’è solo l’aspetto naturalistico, perché ad Asolo è possibile trovare anche **storia, arte, cultura ed enogastronomia**.

The famous poet **Giosuè Carducci** defined Asolo “**The city of a hundred horizons**”, because from its fortress you can admire various naturalistic landscapes in the round. The **privileged position** allows you to enjoy the surrounding panorama, without walking too many kilometers.
From a historical point of view, everyone remembers Asolo for its important role in the **First World War**. In fact, the village was located a short distance from the war front.
Even during the **Second World War**, Asolo was important because it hosted a delegation of the Republic of Salò, of post-fascist style.
Il famoso poeta **Giosuè Carducci** ha definito Asolo “**La città dei cento orizzonti**”, perché dalla sua rocca è possibile ammirare diversi paesaggi naturalistici a tutto tondo. La **posizione privilegiata** consente di godere del panorama circostante, senza fare troppi chilometri a piedi.
Dal punto di vista storico, tutti ricordano Asolo per il suo ruolo importante nella **Prima Guerra Mondiale**. Infatti, il borgo si trovava a poca distanza dal fronte di guerra.
Anche durante la **Seconda Guerra Mondiale**, Asolo fu importante perché ospitò una delegazione della Repubblica di Salò, di stampo post-fascista.

Walking through the suggestive streets of the city, it’s possible to see some churches and monuments of interest. The most famous are the **Church of Santa Caterina**, the **Church and Cemetery of Sant'Anna** and the **Palazzo della Ragione**.
The **Tower** and the **Fortress** are also worth a visit, even if unfortunately they are bare inside because the furnishings and weapons have been moved to various museums in the region.
Of all the buildings, the one that struck me the most is the **house of Eleonora Duse**, a famous Italian theater actress, who was mentioned by the writer Gabriele D'Annunzio!
Percorrendo le suggestive vie della città, è possibile scorgere alcune chiese e monumenti d’interesse. I più famosi sono la **Chiesa di Santa Caterina**, la **Chiesa e il Cimitero di Sant’Anna** e il **Palazzo della Ragione**.
Anche la **Torre** e la **Rocca** meritano una visita, anche se purtroppo sono spogli all’interno perché gli arredi e le armi sono stati spostati in diversi musei della regione.
Tra tutti i palazzi, quello che mi ha colpito di più è la **casa di Eleonora Duse**, una famosa attrice teatrale italiana, di cui parlava lo scrittore Gabriele D’Annunzio!

Asolo is located a **few kilometers away from Venice** and can be an excellent stop during a trip to these areas. I will carry in my heart forever the beauty of his landscapes and his artistic works!
