As the final hours of the fourth quarter of 2025 wind down, I have to admit that I was not expecting that to happen in the dark!
For the first time in quite a while, we have seen substantial rains followed by a good bit of wind, and the result was that late this afternoon we lost power! Which is not surprising, since we live in a part of the world — as I've written about on a number of occasions — where it often gets windy and power lines run through thick forests of tall trees.
So now I find myself trying to put together a post to run out the month typing away on my phone, which is probably my least favorite thing to do.
While I'm not a complete Luddite, I pretty much only use my phone for limited texting and otherwise just to make phone calls. I admire those who can actually use these tiny keyboards type out and create a full length blog post — I just don't happen to be one of them.
And this will probably take me several hours, if not more. Makes me wonder whether the assertions that "blogging is dead" is tied to the fact that blogging from your phone is massively tedious...
Regardless, I'm sitting here in the dark with only a camping lantern so I decided I might as well use my time to put down a few thoughts. Mrs. Denmarkguy is reading a book on her Kindle.
I suppose it's slightly ironic that I felt so relieved that the second quarter had ended and could only imagine that it would be an improvement from there, and now the third quarter is ending and I can only imagine that it's going to get better from here!
Bottom line is that I'm pretty sick and tired of feeling disappointed!
Of course the mere fact that I am saying that I'm "sick and tired of feeling disappointed" is perhaps an illustration of the fact that I actually did such a silly thing as have expectations.
I'm not sure they really are actual expectations though.
For example, earlier this afternoon I was reading a post on one of our local electronic message boards and one of my neighbors was alerting everybody to the fact that with an imminent government shutdown, it was likely that anybody needing medical services and being part of The US Medicare health coverage (the program for people over the age of 65) would like to discover that any medical services would certainly not be covered.
Imagine that! The government can't figure out how to keep running, and people could potentially die as a result of it!
I would be lying if I didn't admit that I'm worried to some degree. I feel anxious about the future the same way we used to feel somewhat anxious because when I was 13 we lived in the Spain of totalitarian dictator Francisco Franco for a couple of years. While it was relatively safe in the broadest sense of the word, everybody was also acutely aware of the fact that you could certainly be ”unalived” for no reason other than the patrol not liking the colored shirt you were wearing.
I don't know what the 4th quarter will hold, and how that will impact the overall year. The only thing I know for sure is that I will have no expectations!
It would be nice though if the next few weeks saw substantial enough business that the Hive I have been powering down to pay taxes could just be powered back up!
Woo-hoo!
The electricity cam back on, so now I can at least add photos from my computer photo library!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great October!
