Today I am planning to post about one dollar lunch saga again, however I have some thought that prevent me to finish my post. I have some talks with others, that I think I better talk about other form of foods rather than the cheapest of the cheapest all the time.
Ok last month I visited @charmingcherry post about street burger here: https://peakd.com/hive-141359/@charmingcherry/everyday-snapshots-august-18-2025. I am a fan of burger, sadly not goes the same for the hotdogs. I like street burger more than McDonald's, which is the biggest fast food chain known for their burger.
When @holoz0r shared about Big Mac index on The Brotherhood discord, I even went to confront the data. Big Mac was big, but it is not big anymore. Currently here in Indonesia, big mac is just a double decker burger that a street burger might be bigger than the big mac.
However I have no will to turn this post into negative campaign of McDonalds. I love some of their products, their ice cone and choco top are my favorite. It is hard to find other soft cream that is better than those, except you are willing to spend 10x more such as getting a Godiva ice cream.
Their fried chicken are good too, it can compete toe to toe with Kentucky Fried Chicken. However I don't even want to eat their burger, it just doesn't work for me.
So let me share you other commonly found Burger which I think they have better taste than McDonalds. I would not go with Burger King, because it is a direct head to head competitor. I do not want to compare it with their competitors, so I will share you guys cheaper burgers than McDonalds.
SAY BURGER
Ok let's go with the first one. This was my favorite, but not anymore. There were too many up and down with this one.
First what confused me was the the brand. Initially they were part of Yummy choice. Yummy is a ready to eat brand that Indomaret has, the biggest convenience store chain in Indonesia. So it confused me in the past whether their were still in Yummy management or not, whether this one was a real one of a fake. There are many foods using similar naming just to trick buyer.
Their products are good. Far from best, but at least acceptable for the taste. They are sold cheap price, so this is the main reason why the taste can not be great.
The pricing was the biggest disappointment for me. Initially they were cheap, 17K is almost a dollar here, 1.05 USD. So yeah they were cheap, but the prices were on roller coaster.
They are cheap when they are on promo, but the promo only appears in certain days, and more like a surprise days because I have no clue when they will be on promo and they are not. When they are not in promo, the price will rise around 50%.
So sometime I look like a hobo there, getting to their shelf, check their price, then not buying any.
Sometime they have interesting product on their shelf. This one is a fruits salad with extra cheese toppings. But those products have same issues, the prices are on roller coaster... This one was a dollar, a decent price actually... but later they were higher so I did not try it.
Yeah, I am very stingy person, most of the time, buying things is like a competition between me and the seller, and I won't let myself on the losing side LoL.
Ok back to the burger.
This was a 20K mean, or around 1.23 USD. A good price, but the burger is not big. I do not care about the size because big mac is not significantly bigger than this one.
And this was the reason why I did not buy this burger frequently. They used to grill them back in that stainless plate, however they used to do this which means recently they do not do this anymore.
Only a very few and limited outlet still grill their burger, most of them right now cutting the cost by using Microwave. I feel burger is not suitable for microwave, there is no smokey flavor, the fat is not melting, and it tastes WEIRD!!
Ok let's get back to the topic so I can finish this post. This is how their burger looks inside. Their patty is not much different than the McDonalds, their bun is similar too. However their condiments are betters, sauces are better.
Their burger has grilled onion and purple cabbage, this simple condiments create different and put this burger better than McDonalds. McDonalds mostly avoids using any vegetables.
Overall I can say this one is not bad, but they used to be a great one. And that past condition is not far long, only a year back ago. That worries me because maybe they can be very bad next year. Let's hope they do not downgrade their burger anymore.
DELI & CO
Deli and Co is a bread manufacturer, and they were selling breads on their stores in the past. Since covid came, they have changed their marketing, instead of selling bread directly, they prefer to make their ready to go bread available in many stores
They are selling their burger now, the ready to go package which you only need to warm them in microwave for 30 seconds.
They have tried selling their burger with different taste, the most common one is cheese burger. In the past they had that chicken burger, but I haven't seen it for months. I think they have replaced it with Beef Patty burger, another version of burger without cheese.
They offer simplicity, just grab them and bring them to the cashier. Their taste suppose to be a good one, I admit that, but I have one problem with this burger. MICROWAVE.
It has no Smokey aroma or flavor, so that alone kills my mood.
Here is their inside. No vegetable at all, this is very similar to McDonalds burger, and their taste although different but kind of similar. They use liquid cheese, not a slice one, this way they can adjust their cost lower by reducing the cheese weight.
Overall I still recommend this burger as long you are not like me, people who dislike Microwave food and prefer to eat something that has a smokey flavor.
Ok I will end my burger post here. I still hope I could get some street burger, because it becomes rare in here. These two burgers I have shared above kill the street burger vendors.
