Greeting Fellow Summoners
Weeks ago I made a Splinterlands posts about one of my favorite combo. It is Silverblade Fighter and Nimbledock Exloperer. I made that picture above then told my story about how these two could combine into one strong function.
Silverblade Fighter is a strong tank, not strong in term able to kill his opponent but more like strong in term hard to kill. However it is not that hard, he strong due to his thick armors.
In my battles using this combo, most of the case the one who comes out as the actual hero is not Silverblade Fighter. The fact is that Nimbledock Explorer is actually the core, or the key in winning.
It is hard to believe that a mere support unit who doesn't have any attack is actually the Hero or the MVP in your battle. Usually MVP is a unit who hit the hardest, or the one who makes the most of kills using his speed. Rarely a support can come out as the Hero.
However this is not the case for Nimbledock Explorer. I often get my victories from battles that Nimbledook Explorer carries them himself. Let me show you one of the battle
I think this battle is pretty simple but effective to explain why in my case, I often find my Nimbledook Explorer becomes my Hero
The ruleset is very simple. Fog of war, it means everything will be direct. With 16 mana cap, you won't have many alternatives, so you must be lean and direct. I think this is the case which I can show you why Nimbledook Explorer will come out as the MVP.
So this is the start of the battle. My team is a simple 3 units line up, with no recovery ability. Their line up is more well designed, they have a tank, a debuffed, and a healar. so let breakdown those in number: 1. They come with 3 melee attack and 4 magic attacks. Every round they could deliver 7 damage. This is quite good for a 16 mana cap formation. 2. My team has 1 melee damage and 1 magic damage. We only have 2 damage per round however... Nimbledook Explorer could throw his armor adding a 5 melee damage, so overall we have the same fire power, 7 damage per round. 3. Overall we should be equal balance, however my team is a bit faster than them and they have recovery ability. It should be fun to see.
In round 2, my Nimbledook Explorer throws his armor and delivers 5 melee damage. Their Falfing Refuge dies instantly. He should be dead in the first round, but by luck he managed to dodge the armor strike.
In the third round, this time their Dark Arborist becomes the victim of Nimbledook Explorer's Armored Strike. one hit one kill, 5 melee damage is too much for her.
The fourth round is Arachne Weaver turn. This time he feels how hard the armored strike lands on his face. Another Instant kill from my Nimbledook Explorer and at this point, victory is already settled
Ujurak Elder is experiencing the same. 5 Armored Strike damage is too much for him.
Ok so what do we see in this battle? 1. Nimbledook Explorer is the undisputed MVP here. He literally kills all of his opponents, 4 of 4 units die from 5 armored strike damage. 2. You might argue that things will be different if we have opponents with higher levels, but I think it won't happen that way. 5 Melee damage per hit from 4 mana unit is ridiculous. His target mostlikely will die from one attack, having no chance to be healed. 3. Is Nimbledook Explorer OP? In this battle he is, however in general, he is not that powerful. He is OP during certain ruleset, like this one 16 mana cap (small mana cap battle).
There are some valid or solid reasons why this Nimbledook Explorer is not popular in general. The two main reasons are first, there are many units that stronger than him. He is only a 4 mana unit, you can not expect him to compete with 8+ mana units and some Legendary rarity units.
Second, in some battle, many could kill him in one go. On higher mana cap, especially above 50 mana, his existence could be a hindrance or dead weight.
I pick Nimbledook Explorer for this week topic, as my unsung hero, because despite those two reasons, he is still our hero for small mana cap battles, even without little league ruleset.
