In video games, we're more than used to the fact that if something goes wrong, we lose a battle, or we want to do things differently, we just have to load the last saved game and restart absolutely everything. So I was wondering what would happen if you could only play a video game once.
A few years ago, this question was answered in a very interesting way with a video game called One Chance. It's not because we only have one chance to save the world, but because we only have one chance to play this video game.
It's about a scientist who, after curing cancer, realizes that the vaccine is actually a deadly virus that will wipe out all of civilization in a week. We all think that we'll have to use those six days to find a cure for that deadly virus.
But that title does things differently and lets you choose how you're going to spend these last days of your life. John Pilgrim, the scientist protagonist, has a family as well as a social life, so we can give up or even abandon everything, as well as return to the lab and use all possible resources to find a cure for what we unleashed.
That's what the game is about. In case you haven't noticed, it's a Flash game, so don't expect too much complexity. You simply move with the D-pad and interact with the space bar. Most of the dialogue is automatic, and the actions you want to take transition to a cinematic.
What I've played, knowing that I only have one chance to play it, has conditioned me a bit on what I chose. I knew that saving the world was going to be quite complicated and that this game didn't have many happy endings, but it still left me quite baffled.
We not only have to be mindful of saving the world, but also of our family. Our wife and daughter will value our company, and if we don't give them that, they will get sick and probably die, so the duality of what we can do is quite good. Get
We leave home and have the option to stay with our family or go to work to watch the news and see the city and its state. Each of these days we will have a new detail about how humanity is doing and we will be able to see people slowly going crazy and protesting in the streets against this disease. deadly
It's dense and has some pretty good characters. Some of our coworkers can't stand having created this deadly virus and take their own lives, while others take a slightly more empathetic approach and repeatedly invite us to use the lab to quickly find a cure.
What I do believe is that it's impossible for us to find an ending that satisfies everyone. We'll have to sacrifice something to achieve that ending where humanity is saved. Although I think that's the point of the game: to put us in impossible situations to see how we react, understanding that this game only has two possible paths.
Family or the lab, either we stay with our daughter and wife until the end of the world or we sacrifice this to live in the lab and have a chance at finding a cure, it's quite interesting when you think about it.
On the one hand We can be the one who tried to save humanity in his last days or we can be remembered by our loved ones as a good father. I'm not going to tell you what came out for me because it's quite shady, but I do invite you to try it because it won't take us even 10 minutes to complete the game.
It's no wonder 4 million people have liked this game and have played it at some point. It basically challenges the initial premise of video games where if you screw up you can start over without consequences, there are no second chances, and the path we take will be the final one, so I was very careful to record all the options and possible paths I chose.
Pretty short and good, so this is going to be my first recommendation here after several months without posting in the gaming community (there will be more). Now that I discovered this page, I think I've become quite addicted to this type of game. fast
This small deviation from what I usually play (I've been really into competitive shooters lately) has opened up possibilities for me to play games I haven't played before, and Newgrounds is legendary for finding games that stand out from what we usually understand as video games, so that's pretty cool.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SEE YOU
