Walking with Charlie this morning, we met up with a big dog we've not seen in a while. I've no idea what breed it is; it looks like a German Shepherd, but its long coat is greyish silver with overtones of black. Charlie doesn't mind big dogs, so after an initial greeting, the shepherd sat while I stroked her and fondled her ears, giving them a good massage as her head tilted with pleasure.
Dog Owner: "Yeah, she's in season at the moment, so I need to keep an eye on her."
Me: "Pfft, Charlie wouldn't know what to do anyway, about all he does is think, what's that smell?"
Dog Owner: "She's not very well either."
Me: "Oh no! What's the matter?"
Dog Owner: "She's cost me £500 in vets' bills so far."
Still winding the dog's ears in my hand.
Me: "Blimey!"
Dog Owner: "Both her ears are really infected."
🧠 Oh great! Thanks for that! You can see I've spent the last few minutes fingering your dog's ears. You can see I have a dog! Thanks mate, thanks a million!
I walked off holding my right hand away from my body, looking for something, anything wet to wipe my hand in. Fortunately, I was heading to the butchers anyway, and he kindly handed me a cloth soaked in soapy hot water to wash my hands. I gave my hands another wash when I got home and obviously kept them as far away from Charlie as possible.
I don't know how some people's minds work, I really don't! 😡
