Volvemos a los Martes Gaming y hoy quería hablarles de una curiosidad que tiene muchos años pero muy pocas personas saben, a parte que de verdad es como una ley un poco absurda del porque pero bueno hoy quiero hablarles de que: Colocar el símbolo de Cruz Roja en los videojuegos es ilegal.

We're back with Gaming Tuesdays, and today I wanted to talk to you about something interesting that's been around for many years but very few people know about, apart from the fact that it's really a bit of an absurd law, but anyway, today I want to talk to you about this: placing the Red Cross symbol in video games is illegal.

Existe una Ley desde hace bastante tiempo hecha por la Convención de Ginebra como por los 1800 y 1900, donde dicen específicamente el símbolo de una cruz roja sobre fondo blanco esta protegido por el derecho internacional humanitario, es decir, que este emblema solo puede usarse con autorización de la Cruz Roja y es exclusivamente para fines humanitarios.

There has been a law in place for quite some time, created by the Geneva Convention in the 1800s and 1900s, which specifically states that the symbol of a red cross on a white background is protected by international humanitarian law. This means that this emblem can only be used with the authorization of the Red Cross and is exclusively for humanitarian purposes.

Cuando se estableció esta Ley se planteo que la lógica fue porque se quiere hacer reconocido este símbolo como algo neutral, en zona de guerra (que es era lo que más se plantaba en esa época que se creó esta ley) y en zonas calmadas, que sea reconocido como protección personal y que si cualquiera lo pudiera usar no se respetaría ni se entendería ese propósito haciendo que ningún juego y tampoco películas ni nada lo pudiera utilizar y si se hace ese uso indebido y Reino Unido se entera, puede ser sancionado.

When this law was established, the reasoning behind it was that this symbol should be recognized as something neutral, in war zones (which was the main reason for its creation at the time) and in peaceful areas, as a form of personal protection. It was argued that if anyone could use it, its purpose would not be respected or understood, meaning that it could not be used in games, movies, or anything else. If it is misused and the United Kingdom finds out, it could be punished.

Ahora uno lee esto que está hecho desde hace años uno se pregunta: pero... ¿y los millones de cruz rojas que yo he visto en los juegos que son? ¿fueron sancionados? y así. Pues eso es lo curioso, muchos son efectos mándelas pues juegan con los detalles de la Ley, específica que es cruz roja con fondo blanco, entonces juegan con ello, por ejemplo, Fornite su botiquín es una cruz blanca con fondo rojo pero uno lo ve y asumes y te da el mensaje de que es un botiquín para la salud.

Lo que me causo curiosidad también de enterarme de esto es que si hay juegos que sin enterarse, quebraron esta ley: Doom y Half Life que sus botiquines son exactamente el símbolo que la Ley puede sancionar, pero por una u otra razón no lo han hecho pues no se han enterado. Lo gracioso es que si han sancionado a empresas o juegos por esta Ley; Prison Architect fue una que si tuvo consecuencias, pues ellos recibieron una carta oficial de la Cruz Roja, donde en realidad bastante amablemente les recordaron esta Ley de la Convención de Ginebra y que podrían estar haciendo un delito y como resultados las personas del juego cambiaron rápidamente todas las cruces rojas por verdes.

What also made me curious when I found out about this is that there are games that, without realizing it, broke this law: Doom and Half Life, whose first aid kits are exactly the symbol that the law can punish, but for one reason or another, they haven't done so because they haven't found out about it. The funny thing is that companies or games have been penalized under this law. Prison Architect was one that did suffer consequences, as they received an official letter from the Red Cross, which actually quite kindly reminded them of this Geneva Convention law and that they could be committing a crime. As a result, the game's developers quickly changed all the red crosses to green ones.

Esto fue demasiado interesante porque en realidad la empresa encargada del juego hizo un video hablando de este cambio que tuvo que hacer y que recibieron la carta, todo como marketing pues su excusa era para recordar y llamar la atención de seguir cumpliendo esta ley pero hasta allí, al final fue demasiada promoción muy fácil a su juegos. Allí también nos enteramos en que la Cruz Roja hizo público un petición para que en las películas y videojuegos respeten esta Ley, cosa que lo que me da risa es que si hacemos búsqueda, no lo están respetando.

This was very interesting because the company responsible for the game made a video talking about this change they had to make and that they received the letter, all as a marketing ploy, since their excuse was to remind people and draw attention to the need to continue complying with this law, but in the end, it was just too much easy promotion for their games. We also learned that the Red Cross made public a petition for movies and video games to respect this law, which makes me laugh because if we do a search, they are not respecting it.

Me encantó enterarme de esto, porque de verdad me gustaría ahora detallar en cada juego que tengo, donde apliquen utilizar botiquines o los colocan en algún lado por hacer adorno, si cumplen o incumplen esta Ley. También esto abrió debate de que si esta ley es absurda o no, más por el tema del Impuesto puesto sobre juegos violentos en México, que de verdad eso **SI** me parece super absurdo pero eso yo lo dejaré en otro post.

I was delighted to learn about this, because I would now really like to check each game I have, where first aid kits are used or placed somewhere as decoration, to see if they comply with or violate this law. This also sparked a debate about whether this law is absurd or not, especially regarding the tax imposed on violent games in Mexico, which I **DO** find super absurd, but I'll leave that for another post.
