Charactober : Lantern Bearer

image.png This is my new character for the charactober prompt lantern bearer. I call it Orvell Lethunash who is a stout, plump fungi-like dimora — a grove-dwelling folk shaped with moss, caps, and soil-born growths. He carries a lantern of shallowlight, and his belt jingles with Thrymbels, small brass chimes that mark his steps and call travelers from fog. His Aumelka hat is decorated with the ember fall foliage, topped by a single red fruit, a seasonal sign worn by dimora to show the year’s turning. During the Firefly Festival, Orvell uses his lantern to guide the fireflies into bright spirals that signal the change of season. Villagers call him the Lethunash a Vyrraleth, the Lantern-Keeper of Shallowlight.

This image below is the almost finished look of my lantern keeper. One of the design hooks is chest cavity glowing like a lantern. That faint glow on its chin is suggestive of that. The autumn foliage I added to make the look interesting and fit for autumn. There are small berries that glows like fireflies. Here there is only one bell it is looking random so I added two more. The glowing heart flame is supposed to be enough but I decided I would still use a real lantern for clarity.

image.png This is an old character I made before there is nothing much to it and had forgotten about it. I see its potential and so I brought it back. I want to keep the duck character but a part of me wants something that looks like a fungi. So I removed the scarf, the bag and the beak.

image.png I am not sure at this point what direction to take I gave it a rest and when I came back the autumn leaves helped me see a different direction glad I made those decisions and am happy with my new fungi character as a lantern bearer
