I went with a snapping turtle this time.
started with this to make a shell
just thinking about shapes
made some more shapes, but not sure yet.
drew some more. but then I realized that instead of trying to make everything, I could just draw half of the image, copy the later, and flip it.

Or it could be a reptile head, wearing a hat of some sort.
