Sorry I a day late but I got back yesterday to late to finish the post. Bit of a disclaimer Im not really a lager/pils drinker so New Zealand is going to be a bit of a challenge most beers on tap I have seen have seen have been that style and a few bottled IPAs. Luckily just round the corner from my hotel is an Irish Bar called the Muddy Farmer. IMG_1179.jpeg

So I might get lucky it’s day 2 since arriving so definitely time for a beer. Inside it’s an unmistakable Irish pub they are the same the world over. IMG_1131.jpeg

So I stopped off there after my photo walk around the Auckland marina. IMG_1130.jpeg

In addition to the obligatory Guinness they also have a beer called Kilkenny on tap brewed by Guinness it’s sort of Guinness lite if that makes sense. Not as dark or creamy as Guinness and a bit less heavy. IMG_1129.jpeg

It’s classed as an Irish Red ale with an ABV of 4.2% it’s one I’ve not seen before mind you I don’t normally frequent Irish bars, I think the last one was in Bangkok about 3 years ago, I must admit it’s a very drinkable beer smooth and malty not as creamy as Guinness it says it nitro-infused I hope that’s nitrogen to make it a bit more creamy and not nitroglycerin which may give it a bigger kick. Certainly holds the creamy head well like Guinness.

Looking on the Guinness web page in Europe Kilkenny is brewed by Guinness in Dublin. But for the Southern Hemisphere market in Australia and New Zealand it’s brewed under licence by the Lion Brewery, the formula is slightly different than the Irish version so I guess if I can find it in the UK when I get home I’ll have to try a pint and see if I notice any difference.
