As @scubahead was waxing lyrical on his YouTube channel about some of his local pubs close to Castle Gardens where he moors his narrow boat when he passes through Leicester. As I was in the town prior to joining him to help move his new narrow boat to a new location, I thought I’d give one of them a try. The Blue Boar was the closest on to my hotel near the station it was the first on the list.
It’s a tiny Pub with seating for about 25 people. A really friendly and true micro Pub. Inside it’s simple and quite rustic but very cosy.
But with some great beers and ciders on tap I can see why @scubahead likes it some much.
So Hivers what was I drinking well what else than a pint of Blue Boar Ruby Ale by Rock Ales. It’s a very easy drinking 4.5% ABV ruby
The beer poured very well from the pump not to much head and not too gassy.
It kept its head well and is an easy drinking reasonably strong rich bitter that was nice and hoppy with spicy overtones.
The Blue Boar also serves food if your a bit peckish as I was so I thought I’d try one of the local delicacy’s a cheese and onion crusty cob.
Very nice it was too for what is really a glorified cheese roll. Loads of cheese and onion that just about took your breath away. Simple fair but nicely filling and a far cry from the junk food I was planning to have on the way back to my hotel.
So there you have it Hiver beer drinkers if your ever Leicester drop into the Blue Boar on Millstone Lane a tiny pub with a big heart.
