OK Hivers this weeks offering is Wainwright Gold from Wainwright Beer an offshoot of the Marstons group I’m not sure where it’s brewed. Inspired by the famous fell walker Alfred Wainwright from the 50s and early 60s. Gold is an easy drinking citric and fruity 4.1% ABV golden ale.

The bottle I had was a bit of a lively pour but settled nicely and did hold its head well. At only 4.1% ABV it’s probably a good session beer for a BBQ in the summer as it’s a very refreshing beer

For those who have never heard of Alfred Wainwright he was an account born in Blackburn in 1907 but he is most famously known for his Lake District pictorial guides all hand illustrated with how own personal style of prose, He has been the inspiration for thousands of hill walkers in the UK. It all got a bit of a new lease of life with the 2007 BBC TV series with Julia Bradbury. You can still buy the books today the full set will be cost about £80 but individually they cover different sections of the lakes and cost about £20 each early editions go for silly money. Still Hivers what’s the beer like to be honest it’s very easy drinking and a bit fruity and sweet, I think it would go with with something light like fish such as salmon or trout but not fish and chips the vinegar would kill it.

Wainwright also do an Amber beer at only 3.4% ABV that is supposed to be a bit more hoppy and bitter so would probably work well with a Sunday roast. If I see a bottle I’ll give it a try certainly worth a go as the Gold is a very pleasant drink.
