Visiting the Chacaíto Gorge
Hello Hive community, if there's one thing I'm passionate about, it's climbing mountains and connecting with nature. Ávila is one of my favorite mountains; I think it has a unique climate, aroma, and beauty that is imposing, magical, and protective. The truth is that I really needed to climb it, since, as you know, access to Ávila was closed from the beginning of the year until July 1 as a protective measure due to the drought.
That's why I didn't want to miss out on the visit of my cousin Sofia and her son Santiago, who live in El Tigre, Anzoátegui state, to invite them to take a refreshing dip in the Chacaíto stream located in the Waraira Repano National Park, better known as El Ávila, which was undoubtedly a great challenge for these easterners accustomed to walking on flat ground. In fact, on July 5, when we were at the Proceres promenade watching the classic military parade, my cousin Santiago asked me if I had climbed that mountain that seemed to touch the sky, referring to Ávila, which at that moment had some fog at the top, which motivated me to take him to live that experience.
My friend Hany also joined us on the hike. She is a hiker from Magdalena and also a fan of Ávila, but she didn't know this route either, so she decided to come with us.
It all began very early on a Tuesday when we took the train to the city of Caracas, where we took two trucks to get to Plaza Altamira, the place where we began our hike, entering through the Mosaics Tunnel or Dance of Traditions, where we changed and hydrated ourselves to begin our ascent. This section to Sabas Nieves is usually very busy, as many Caracas residents use it for their daily training.
After completing this first stretch, we stopped in Sabas Nieves for breakfast and to refill our water bottles with delicious mountain water. While we were eating, the Querrequerres came over to say hello.
We then continued on our way, eager to reach the stream to cool off. It is worth mentioning that by this point, we were encountering fewer hikers, and at one point along the route, my cousins spotted a snake on the side of the trail. From their description, I think it was a tiger snake, a non-venomous species, but I cannot say for sure as I did not see it myself. The truth is that the mountain is their habitat, and we should not harm them.
Finally, we arrived at the Chacaíto ravine where we were able to take a refreshing dip in the cold water, which in my opinion is the best way to reward ourselves for the effort it took to get there. I took the opportunity to do a mini photo shoot with Hany.
We made our way back to the city by continuing on to the Cacaíto park ranger station, following the firebreak and descending to the 1,000-meter mark at the cable car station.

Visitando la Quebrada Chacaíto
Hola comunidad de Hive, si hay algo que me apasiona es subir montañas y conectar con la naturaleza, siendo el Ávila una de mis montañas predilectas, creo que tiene un clima, un aroma, una belleza única, imponente, mágica y protectora. La verdad es que ya me hacía falta subirla puesto que como ya se sabe los accesos al Ávila estuvieron cerrados desde inicio de año hasta el 01 de julio como medida de protección por la época de sequía.
Por lo cual no quise pasar por alto la visita de mi prima Sofia y su Hijo Santiago, quienes viven en el Tigre estado Anzoátegui, para invitarlos a darse un refrescante baño en la quebrada Chacaíto ubicada en el parque nacional Waraira Repano, mejor conocido como el Ávila, lo cual sin duda represento un gran reto para esos orientales acostumbrados a caminar en puro plano, de hecho, el 5 de julio que estuvimos en el paseo los Próceres observando el clásico desfile militar, mi primo Santiago me pregunto si yo había subido esa montaña que parecía tocar el cielo, refiriéndose al Ávila que para ese momento tenía algo de neblina en la cima, lo cual me motivó a llevarlo a vivir esa experiencia.
En el paseo también contamos con la compañía de mi amiga Hany, ella es senderista de la Magdalena y también fanática del Ávila, pero tampoco conocía esta ruta por lo cual se animó a subir con nosotros.
Todo comenzó un martes muy temprano cuando nos trasladamos en ferrocarril hasta la ciudad de Caracas donde tomamos 2 camionetas para llegar a la plaza Altamira lugar desde donde comenzamos nuestra caminata entrando por túnel de los Mosaicos o Danza de las Tradiciones, donde nos cambiamos e hidratamos para comenzar nuestro ascenso, este tramo hasta Sabas Nieves por lo general siempre está bien concurrido muchos caraqueños lo utilizan para su entrenamiento diario.
Superado este primer tramo realizamos una parada en Sabas Nieves para desayunar y recargar nuestros envases con deliciosa agua de montaña, mientras desayunábamos los Querrequerres se acercaron a saludar.
Luego continuamos nuestro camino con muchas ansias de llegar a la quebrada para refrescarnos, cabe mencionar que ya para esta parte fue menos frecuente toparnos con otros senderistas y en cierta parte del recorrido mis primos lograron observar una serpiente a un lado del camino por la descripción creo que era una tigra cazadora una serpiente no venenosa, no lo puedo asegurar pues yo no la vi, lo cierto es que la montaña es su habitad y no debemos hacerles daño.
Finalmente llegamos a la quebrada Chacaíto donde nos pudimos dar un buen baño de agua helada, que en mi opinión es la mejor manera de recompensar el esfuerzo hecho para llegar hasta allí, aproveche para realizar una mini sesión fotográfica a Hany.
El retorno a la ciudad lo hicimos continuando hasta el puesto de guardaparques Cacaíto, siguiendo por el cortafuego y bajando hacia la cota mil a la altura de la estación del teleférico.
