Hi there. In this education post, I want to point out some ways in how kids are tough customers in the education space. This goes for public education and private for profit education.
Kids Can Be Too Honest
Since young students are young and have not fully developed their control of emotion, they can be a bit too honest sometimes. They may say things they don't mean or say some strong words. Some naughty kids may swear at teachers and staff. Kids who are upset could be a sign that the teaching is not fun enough or interesting enough. There are cases where the upset student is spoiled or naughty.
Educators could use these honest feedback comments as constructive criticism while understanding that kids are still growing in maturity. Maybe a certain lesson could have been more interesting. Maybe more visuals could have been used. Or maybe the choice of topic may not have been appropriate.
Getting Bored Easily & Need For Fun
At the early ages, kids generally do not want to work so hard. They are more focused on play, fun and games. There are a few kids who have long term goals for their careers at a young age. These kids may be pushed hard by parents or they push themselves to do well.
Kids may not understand the long term value of education. They may even refuse to learn things that are beneficial to them. The refusal of learning could be because there is too much work, the topics are not interesting, the activities are not engaging or even the students themselves are not motivated to learn.
As of late some education providers are finding the right balance between fun and engaging activities and teaching important topics. Educational cartoons for example keeps the kids engaged visually as they learn certain topics. Activities that involve touchscreen and learning interactions do offer something more interesting and different compared to test taking and writing on paper. Flashcards in physical form or online are good for testing memory and for keeping students engaged. There are more interactive educational activities out there. I do think that it is important to mix things up when it comes to activities and presenting learning material. Repetition would definitely lead to bored students and lower education engagement. Having variety does force students to learn in different ways.
