Pokemon TCG Pocket - Kingdra ex Deck

Hi there. I cover a Pokemon TCG Pocket deck here. It is based on Kingdra ex.

Core Cards

Horsea + Kingdra ex

When it comes to Horsea, I choose the 50 HP Horsea with the 30 damage attack. 30 damage is relevant as it can one hit knockout the 30 HP Baby Pokemon.

Kingdra ex is the main attacker in this deck. It has a good amount of HP and the attack can trap non attacking Pokemon with its Stormy Prison attack.

Pyukumuku & Rare Candy

Rare Candy is essential in Stage 2 decks. You can evolve from the Basic Pokemon right into the corresponding Stage 2 Pokemon. You skip the Stage 1 evolution when you use Rare Candy.

One copy of Pyukumuku is put in here as an alternate Basic Pokemon. Have Pyukumuku in the active spot as a mini wall while you setup Horseas into Kingdra ex.

Decklist

Pokémon: 7 2 Horsea A4 41 1 Seadra A4 42 2 Kingdra ex A4 43 1 Pyukumuku A3 54 1 Shaymin A2 22

Trainer: 13 1 Potion P-A 1 1 X Speed P-A 2 2 Poké Ball P-A 5 2 Rare Candy A3 144 2 Giant Cape A2 147 2 Professor's Research P-A 7 1 Sabrina A1 225 1 Cyrus A2 150 1 Irida A2a 72

I think a few tweaks could be done to this list to make it more consistent. Maybe cut a Potion for a Red Card or Mars for hand disruption. There's quite a few Sylveon draw engine decks out there.

Advantages

  • Horsea has a good 30 damage attack.
  • Kingdra ex has a lot of HP
  • Advantage over most Fire Pokemon
  • Retreat lock attack on Kingdra ex prevents retreating.

Disadvantages

  • Horsea is vulnerable at 50 HP.
  • Setup for Kingdra ex could be slow.
  • Lack of one hit power with Kingdra's 90 damage attack.
  • Weak to Lightning attackers.

Closing Notes

I wanted to at least try this Kingdra ex deck. From the first 30 something packs I pulled, I did get 2 Kingdra ex. It made sense for me try this deck out.

On the ranked ladder on Great Ball Rank 3, I found myself being slow against stuff like Giratina ex + Darkrai ex. Either I got unlucky with setup or they just had more firepower. Two energy attack on Kingdra ex is okay.

In one match, the opponent happened to have two copies of Ilima and one Lyra to escape Kingdra ex's Retreat lock attack. Rigged matchmaking?? Or unlucky?

After about ten matches in ranked with underwhelming results, I moved on from Kingdra ex. Setup is a bit slow and the firepower is kind of low even though you have retreat lock on Kingdra ex's attack. This deck is not awful but it is not top tier.

Thank you for reading.
