Hi there. In this education post, I share my thoughts on school presentation assignments.
School Presentations In Assignments
School presentations in class lets teachers see how students present and communicate their work to an audience. Presentations are much more different that pencil and paper tests. Pencil and paper tests do not involve talking while presentations focus less on memorization and more on communication.
Presentation assignments do mix things up for the students. Instead of the usual sitting down, students do have to stand in front of the class and communicate their ideas, work and thoughts.
Team Presentations
Presentation assignments can be done individually, in pairs are in teams. Larger teams in a class would result in less presentations and there would be a fair bit of teamwork involved in deliver a good presentation. Presentations done solo or in pairs would result in a bit more work for each presenter and there would be more presentations.
Time & Length Of Presentations
The length of time for presentations can vary. Short presentations would require less work and take up less class time. Longer presentations provide more information for the teacher to evaluate students but they take up more class time which gets in the way of teaching. It is up to the teacher to decide on presentation length, time and format.
Good Parts Of Assignments With Presentations
- Something different other than paper and pencil tests.
- Teachers can see how students communicate in front of others.
- Good practice for real world presentations.
- Can't really cheat during presentations versus tests/assignments
- Some presentations are interesting and entertaining.
Bad Parts Of Presentation Assignments
- Presentations can be boring sometimes.
- Does take a bit of class time.
- Some students in teams may not do equal work.
- Presentations can cause anxiety to some students.
- Possible technical difficulties causing delays.
Closing Notes
School presentation assignments do offer something different for both students and teachers. Presentations allow students express themselves while communicating information to an audience. There is a bit of an art and science in deliver good presentations. Presentation assignments allow students to practice their public speaking and communication skills.
Presentations do take a bit of class time and a lot of preparation work. This makes presentation assignments less common versus tests and written assignments. Quality in presentations can vary. Bad presentations are not enjoyable while good ones can be really interesting and enjoyable for audiences.
