It has now been many years since that time. The concept is the same, but the people that joined with the intention of helping each other have not been willing to help new people on the platform. They have not been willing to grow their accounts. They are still stuck on the idea as if every day were their first day on the platform. Put up a a picture, write something, and get your money. Infantile. You got votes for your participation in order to let you see that this does really work. It does really pay and the money is usable.
They did, however, test the advice they were given. They were told not to post other people's photos or text as their own. The people who understand the way thing work here could not possibly know what problems that could bring. They just had to try it for themselves. Enter the downvotes and blacklisting that many of you have experienced.
There is a core group of people that set up the guidelines that everyone should follow. The list of guidelines were put there in order to assure the success of everyone in the group. If you follow them, you will succeed. My votes will go to those that are following the guidelines.
I trusted you all to grow with the platform. I hoped for your success and gave you a fighting chance to have success. I brought others onto Hive so they could succeed, making money by voting on good Hive content. They quickly found that our community is not full of people who will make them proud - some are just looking for as much as we can give them while the effort to make those posts is minimal.
I did not come here to work harder than those making posts, though it has become a full time job, checking each post, running the text through a search engine to see if it is stolen, checking the images to see if they are original, looking at users' voting power to see if they vote for their peers in the community. I will not do this work forever. There is an end date for those who keep trying to just get by and take a vote worth more than their effort.
For now, I am still looking at the people who are in the group and when I see someone who pays NO attentionto others in the group, I will take the time to not vote for them. Others on the platform will blacklist them and downvote them. I will simply remove my vote. If a person cannot learn to put something valuable into their post, no vote. If they do not vote for others in our community, no vote.
If you are wondering why some people make more money here than others, maybe you should take a look at what those other people are doing. Are their posts worth opening and reading? Are they original? Do they support new people in the community by giving the newbies a charitable vote? Those are some of the things that will get good votes your posts.
If your name disappears from the community list, it means that I have given up on your ability to follow the guidelines. I think this is much better way to improve Hive. Downvoting has never been an option for me. It should only be used for spammers and those that put up illegal or disgusting content. That does not mean I will never use them. I have used them to defend the people that need time to learn the principals of Hive and how it should be used.
