A Birthday Beyond the Sky: Remembering Our Beloved Lola

Hello, Hivers! It’s me again, Doughnahhh, back with another blog series. Today, I will be sharing a special ganap that close to our heart our simple celebration we prepared for her birthday yesterday for our beloved Lola Venancia, I believed he has been watching over us from heaven since she passed away last 2021. Even though she’s no longer with us physically but we still take time to honor her with our love and remember her. We want her to feel our presence even from up there and know how much she’s still valued, missed, and deeply loved by all of us. We were on our way to the cemetery to visit my grandmother because as I mentioned upstairs, it is her birthday, and on our way to the cemetery, we saw a bakery shop and we decided to make a quick stop when we saw it. We buy some bread so that we have something to eat at the cemetery while we are spending time there. It may have been a very simple celebration, but it really made our visit to my grandmother more meaningful and comforting for sure and full of love after.   After buying the bread, we are immediately headed to the cemetery to visit our beloved grandmother, and after we arrived, we spent some quiet and meaningful time together while talking and reminiscing, and we also took some photos to capture the moment together with my mother, father, sister, and brother and some of our cousins and our uncle were there too, which made our visit feel even a little complete. It was another little heartfelt family gathering that we have even though we are little and not complete, though. We really feel that time and that place filled with love, memories, and togetherness.    After a few hours, we are planning to head home because it will be a little bit late at that time and we will be going to prepare for our dinner. On our way home we enjoyed a few views before leaving it was a very calm and refreshing, the kind of scenery that will make you want to pause for a while and take it all in.   We also made a quick stop at the supermarket to buy pork because we are planning to grill it for our dinner. I actually forgot to take a photo while we were buying the pork, since my phone was already low on battery at that time so sayang huhu. After we were done buying everything that we needed, we continued our hiding way home so that we could start cooking. My father also caught a chicken and he arrested it just like what many others do during birthdays. It’s like a common tradition in our culture to serve chicken on someone’s birthday. Like us Filipinos, some believed to bring blessings or symbolize a meaningful celebration though. That’s why my father decided that we will cook even one because it’s my grandmother’s birthday. Even though she is not with us anymore we wanted to prepare something special even though it is just a little we really honor her even though she's not here with us. Fast forward to that night everything was finally settled, and we were all very ready to eat dinner at that time because the food was very well ready, and the table was all very prepared and ready to eat. The smell of the yummy grilled pork and chicken was filled the air, making all of us even more excited to eat.  But before we dig in, let me share with you all a quick trivia about who prepared our delicious food that we will be eating. All the credit goes to my very reliable boyfriend lemme give him hands up for her hehehe. He was the only one who grilled the pork and also the one who cooked and prepared the chicken from start to the very end. He was really the one who took charge of everything in the kitchen, like preparing everything that was needed and he really made sure that everything would be done perfectly at all he even didn't want to be disturbed. I really actually wanted to take a picture of him while he was busy preparing and cooking, but sadly, my phone had a low battery, so I was charging it at that time and I really forgot to take a picture of him. I really missed the chance so sayang hurhur! But it’s fine, because what matters most for me is how he really handled everything to be done. The food he prepared turned out so delicious, and we all truly appreciated his effort not only me but also my family. It is a very heartwarming to see someone that we love put her time and care into something like that. It's so meaningful even though it's a very small thing or gesture, and he definitely made the simple celebration on that day even more special.  That’s all for now, Hivers!
