The teaching about idols and the people who trust in them is a very important one to reflect on looking at the state of our world today.
The Bible says in Psalm 115:4-8 that idols are like silver and gold, the works of men and objects that talk about objects that have mouths but cannot speak, eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear.
This explains that those who trust in such idols become like them spiritually. They are blind, they are deaf and they are lifeless. This is a very important truth that many people in our world today are falling to this trap.
You might not see them bound to those images of stone but they are known to worship those idols. They are meant to worship money, fame, material things and power. These are the silver and gold of our time.
Just as idols of old could not see, the modern idols too cannot give life or peace or salvation. Brother Eli is trying to remind us that we must get loose from all those things. In 2 Corinthians 4:4 that the God of this world, Satan, has decided to blind our mind from those things. We do not believe.
This is why so many people can hear the word but yet they fail to listen properly. Their hearts have been hardened and they have been deceived by the shiny things of the world. We must turn away from this force and open our eyes and hear what the living God has commanded us to do. Only that we can see the light and be happy at the end.
